What do you guys use to sharpen your knives?

If you are concerned with doing emergency sharpening while camping, you might consider a dmt diamond credit card sharpener to carry in your wallet. Use like a small stone with light strokes. It should not shorten the knife's life appreciably if it was already sharp and profiled correctly. You will only be touching up the apex of the blade's edge, unless you have chips to grind out. And then unless they are large chips, I would just sharpen around the chips, and they will go away with repeated sharpening as needed.

Blessings,

Omar

I freehand on DMT diamond bench stones at this point, I've ended up with basically a full set of 10" stones.

But, IMO, the sharpener's skill is more important than whatever system your are using.

I'm a fan of freehand, and did get a couple of assisted sharpeners (Sharpmaker, Apex Pro) to try out for a while,
but I came back to the bench stones in the end, because they are what work for me.

Diamond stones in particular are especially low maintenance and trouble free,
I just put a little soapy water on them, and clean and dry them when I am done sharpening.

I do have an 8000 grit Spyderco ceramic bench stone with a leather pouch that I use for finer polishing,
I think it's really nice.
