It is a wide blade!
It looks to me a little like a khukuri, only the recurved area is full of sharpened steel. I'll be glad to have that blade protecting my hand while I'm hacking through Scotch Broom, gorse, salmon berry and raspberry bushes. I will chop wood with it just for fun. But I don't expect it to outperform my chainsaw in that regard
I must say though, that Matt is a real bastard!
Every time he calls, he just about gets me with his immediate question of 'do I carry Schwinn bikes', or 'can you fix my Huffy'. Oy vey!
But he totally got me yesterday, when I answered that phone, and a southern accent at the other end asked if I do 'telephone price matching'. After a brief pause on my part, and a short count to ten, I said no, to which the drawling reply stated flatly, "Walmart will do it".
Another, really long pause.
"It's Matt. Sorry, but I just really enjoy teasing you for some reason. I just wanted to let you know that I'm shipping your knife on Monday."
Spending $600 on a knife is not something I have ever done, or expect to do regularly, but I can tell you this- there is NO other maker out there, who I'd rather have pop my cherry than Matt Lamey. If there is ever an opportunity to deal with him in the future, I will gladly take it. He is a cool guy, and has my vote as one of the top knifemakers out there. And not just because of the knives he makes.
Here's to Matt for keeping it real. And for reading my mind to come up with this knife for me. From the pictures at least, it looks to be the perfect knife for what I have in mind:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
