Right now as I sit as work, in a semi formal office environment, I have the following items on my person. Not including anythign in my coat as I am not wearing it at this moment.

1. Orange Photon Microlight - loose in pocket
2. White Photon Microlight (attached to work key ring)
3. Red Photon Microlight (attached to SAK)
4. Suunto Compass clipped to watchband
5. Swiss Army Tinker
6. Gerber Multipliers
7. Diamond Sharpening rod - stuffed in Gerber pouch)
8. Bic Lighter
9. Plastic Survival mirror in wallet

Not including cash or credit cards for Urban Survival, that is about all I can think of.

Good list -- I posted a similar Q sometime back, which generated many replies. The best was by Nemo, who included a "brain" to know how to use one's tools sensibly! (THAT is a "tool" I leave behind a bit too often...!)

When I'm at school, I'm pretty much screwed in this category.
But when I'm not, I always have a spyderco delica, a gerbermulti pliar, and a good pair of boots.
Theres a good excuse, Mom I can't go to school because I won't be equiped to survive!

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

There are days when I'm at work (school) that I wish I had a 1911 in my waistband for survival!! LOL

But realistically, I usually have my SAK-Officers model and a small kobutan attached to my keyring. Anything beyond that tends to stand out while in front of a classroom of kids.

This is part of the reason I'm trying to put together a flatish small pocket kit in a "bag" a little larger than a credit card.

On my person at the moment:
[*] Spyderco Military (serrated) & a variety of other knives ;-)
[*] Green Photon on key ring
[*] Zippo lighter & pack of matches
[*] Space pen (bullet model)
[*] Money

The one item I wouldn't be happy with in a survival situation is my shoes -- slip-on boat moccasins.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

Currently, the most useful things on me:

SAK Ruck
Leatherman Micra
Miniature Magnesium bar with flint (1.5"x.25")
Handcuff key (don't ask)
Shoelaces (extremely useful)
Nice fuzzy sweater (good tinder source)
Credit Card receipts (burn nicely, and happily)
Hmmm...no belt today, but most days...
A watch
And the most useful...a cellular phone

I'll chime in on this one:

- Dozier Arkansas Toothpick
- Original Leatherman tool
- Surefire 6P
- Zippo
- leatherman micra + white photon2
- combat boots

Most of the "good" stuff is in my Dakota 4x4 (with cell phone and CB in glove box) out in the parking lot, but on my person, I have:

1. Victorinox Exective SAK
2. Hubertus lever lock 2 1/2" blade
3. Hubertus pen release 3 1/2" blade (I just got this in the mail today--will probably find a nice place at home for it after I get done fondling it!)
4. Key chain with various tools and a mini-champ SAK, mini-mag light; this key chain is quite the weapon when you get it a swinging!

5. butane lighter and matches in my brief case (just an arms length away)
6. extra truck key in briefcase
7. AA mag-lite in briefcase
8. Eddie Baurer mini flashlight with lock-deicer tool
9. tic tacs for that ohh-so fresh breath

Don't have s**t for shoes right now, but when snowing, I always have some good water-proof hiking-type shoe-boots (ankle-high type).

I get enough strange looks without wearing army boots to work !

I keep a tool bag with various tools in my cradenza at work; people know that I'm prepared and are always coming over to get something fixed, like their eyeglasses or a jammed stapler, etc.

Sounds like I need to pick up a couple of those Micro Photon lights (pretty cool!). I have a Knighthawk Micro light that can be worn on a finger that I have had for several years--I usually take this with me when I know I will be camping or outside at night; it has an amber light and has just enough light to help you see in the dark.

You photon freaks may wish to check out the threads about doubling the voltage of certain Photons, notably green and red, which yields a great deal more light, lasting over 36 hours. Further, you may wish to peruse my thread on waterproofing the Photon II. Both these threads are on Brian Avery's Photon website: http://www.photonlight.com/

Hope this helps, Walt

Thanks for the tips, Walt. I'm looking forward to trying both.

BTW, that green one you sent to me months ago not only got me hooked but also made quite a few converts. I have a bunch on order as stocking stuffers.

Dave: you got me thinking! Uh oh!

You could come up with quite a few items for survival in that laptop. Break the screen, you now have something to cut with!

Pull the wires-not sure how many in a computer now! You now have cordage! You could use bits of solder for shiny lures for fishing/trapping.

The coating from the wires may burn easily for fire tinder!?!

Not sure if it would work, but could the battery be used to start a fire? Use some of the wire and steel wool?!?

CD's reflect light, the screen may too! Maybe you could crudely signal with those.

Imagine what you could do with a COFFEE MAKER!
