What do you know 'bout Greco?

Let's watch the name calling folks.

Strange, isn't it? Here we are discussing a gentleman (John Greco... remember him?) who probably wouldn't say s**t if he had a mouthful of it, and we're ripping each other apart (or should I say CUTTING each other apart -- this IS the Blade Forums, after all :)). I don't mean to sound condescending, as I am just as capable as anyone of getting my butt up on my shoulders when somebody scrapes up against my ego.

I admit that I don't know John well at all, but my 2 phone conversations and one short email exchange with him left me with a strong impression of his kindness and respect for others. I wish folks could honestly say such things of me. Unfortunately, it ain't so. God willing, perhaps some day...

Shalom,
Mark

John Greco kicks ass. period. His knives WILL always kick ass. period. I have owned three over the years, and I wish I still had them. Good strong knives.

i'm about to step on the toes of the master! Some have had some of his "real deal" Blade Show specials break and show holes in the steel below the breaking points in at least two cases. Bad castings. As far as I know he made good on both them. Bottom line is that in every case that I know of, he has stood behind his work. Ever heard of getting what you pay for? He pushed a lot of steel in order to make his commmitments. He still is a custom maker who stands behind his knives. Basically, the only difference between a custom knife and a production one is the service and the man who stands behind the name.
Why do reasonable, intellegent men have to swear to make their point?
Of course swearing is easy to do when no one sees you . It takes nothing to be a keyboard commando. If you want to earn and keep respect on these pages, learn to be precise, brief and to the point about what you have to say. I learned a long time ago that the rep you build here stands you in good stead, or not, as you meet these guys face to face. Speak softly and carry a cool knife. Except for Tim Herman. In that case, %%^&%& him! ;)

I would hate to see this end in a negative manner. So....... I have one of John Greco's Whisper folders. I spoke with John to order it, he really is a class act/nice guy. The knife itself is no nonsense and sturdy. It's meant to be used and used hard.......and still hold up. I like mine and will not part with it...ever. My hats off to John Greco, he will be missed.

I thought the problem with the chipping and breaking was a loooong time ago and has since been resolved.

I picked up an MST a little while ago and have definitely pushed it. I'm not chopping down trees, but it's sliced and chopped its fair share of thick cardboard.

The steel has held up great, and the coating, while not as thick or as sturdy as the Becker/Camillus/Swamp Rat epoxy coat, does the job relatively well at protecting the steel from corrosion.

I did add grip tape to the handles, as the polished Micarta is awfully slippery, even when dry.

One of these days I'll figure out how to cord wrap it. That'd make a nifty bedside knife...

I have three of John's knives. I have had a chance to use the folder and the MST on cardboard and wood. They cut well and held their sharpness well. Great values and fine knives. (I used hockey stick tape on the MST handle rather than sandpapering it.)

First off, I own one of john's fixed blades and all i can say is the man makes good, working knife. For the money i paid and the quality i get, there's certainly no complains about it. I even got a custom kydex sheath made for it by Robert from survival sheath.com. His health does not permits him to make knives anymore but his legend will live on.

As for getting pissed, My apologies for using vulgarity,Spark. Unlike someone, i only reacts to how i'm being treated...you spit at me, be prepared to be spit back! Acting innocent like as if you said nothing wrong is no good, If you had a bad day...don't take it out on someone half way across the world thinking you can get away with it. I've been here long enough: although i'm not some super cool, knowledgeble dude....i've earn my stars for not cheating, lying or be disrespectful to others. Nough' said, I don't need to be placed on a pedestal...nor do i want to be stepped on.
