The Farmer is one of the most highly praised SAKs on the forum. It is extremely durable, easy to sharpen, requires basically no maintenance, and has a great versatile tool set. I correctly have three NIB Farmers (one of each color) and a blue and silver that I actually use. Paired up with a P-7 Suspension clip, I believe it's one of the best knives you can put in your pocket!

Why do you like the Farmer?

Thanks

I like the saw and the bottle opener that actually works:) Don't care for the protruding eyelet.
Ground it off my red Farmer carry, the blue Farmer is unused.

Its good because it has three versatile tools: knife, saw and awl. The universal bottle opener/can opener are okay, but the trio of the above mentioned tools in a compact package with Alox scales make it a real Gem. If the farmer just had those three tools, I suspect it would be just as popular with the bushcraft crowd as its current form is. I'm not sure if the thicker knife on the alox blades makes them any better or not.

All that said, I prefer the larger SAKs, because I like the slightly longer saw. My current bushy-favorite is the OHT with strong kudos to the rucksak.

I like the farmer for its size and available tools. I've found that, as much as I love any one SAK or another, there's always something that I wish it had instead of another tool. The farmer is a perfect pocketable size, and very unobtrusive due to it not being 30 layers thick. It has a blade that is appropriately sized to handle any small tasks I would need a small folder for, and pairing it with a saw, it complements most fixed blades I carry when in the woods (3"-5" range, usually). The can opener gets more use as a screwdriver than anything else, but the bottle opener gets a good workout on a regular basis :p. The few times I've used the awl it has performed as expected, and works pretty well as a firesteel striker in a pinch, I'll bet. Hell, the only tool I could trade out on mine would be the can opener, maybe to replace it with a pruning blade just because they look sweet, but then again, I'd probably not use that much, either. The pocket clip idea is something I've been meaning to look into for some time now. I'll have to search around and get my ass in gear on that one..

Everything-except for the lack of a small blade and tweezers. That's why I have a Hiker(even though it gives up the awl:(), and an Electrician Plus for work. I may switch to the Farmer, since I have a Classic on my keys, and another in my first aid kit. The small blades on the Hiker and Electrician+ come in handy a lot, though.

I like the Farmer, but agree w/ kgd- I'd like it even more nixing the can/bottle openers

there are a few guys that have successfully done so, but it appears a job for the not faint of heart :)

swissbianco occasionally does a run of just this knife ^ occasionally, called the bushcrafter (appropriate :))

I really like the Farmer and the Soldier. Planning on getting as many Alox SAKs' as I can in the future.

Right now I'm using the +B Bushcrafter and really like it!

like others who've posted i like the farmer because it has the three main tools. blade, saw and awl.

however, i prefer my vic outrider camo version as its larger and feels more robust. also the scissors on there are really nice to have.

if they made a farmer "plus", basically a farmer in the size of the 111mm saks i'd definetly buy one.

the farmer definetly makes a handy back up blade though to a fixed.

I bought one not too long ago, but I haven't carried it yet. I guess I'm waiting for a good opportunity to try out the wood saw...

Brian- color me jealous :) hopefully a release coming soon

Took me a while to find that one and I paid a premium for it. I love it though, super slim in the pocket and still does a lot of work when you need it.

+B just came out with the Black Farmer ... he might have some left.

I was on the original order for the Bushcrafter when they were less than $40 but sadly didn't have the money when they were available so I'm really glad that I found this one!

Pretty sure that he will do another run ... they are popular.

Get on his newsletter if you aren't now.

^ yeah I saw the black Farmers on the newsletter, if I didn't already have a silver Farmer I'd grab one, definitely going to jump on the next bushcrafter run though :)

I really like everything about the Farmer. There is not one thing I dislike about it except that I have other knives that seem to take its place way too often. It was my dedicated Backpocket knife for a year and a half and after getting a few others it has been neglected. Poor poor farmer.

Combining all the solid colors, along with Swissbiancos solids and splashes, you are looking at close to 20. Also, different cross and shields were done.

WOW !!! I didn't know that. Pretty cool. I'm gonna have to try and find a few more.
