What do you like about the Victorinox Farmer?

Heres what I dont like. The lack of a toothpick. Im getting a hiker in three days just because I Want the Farmer tools with the toothpick.

Yeah thats the biggest down side to alox...I carry mini gripper tweezers on my keys but I don't have any toothpicks.

It's a very versatile tool, it fits in the pocket perfectly, it's tough and durable and is inexpensive.

The Farmer is one of the near perfect SAK combos. I carried mine for over 20 years before it was stolen. Hwever I never did care for the can opener blade. Nwadays I carry a Pioneer Harvester, it gives me a small blade instead of the can opener. It also lacks the lanyard ring.

I like the saw and the bottle opener that actually works:) Don't care for the protruding eyelet.
Ground it off my red Farmer carry, the blue Farmer is unused.

how'd you go about grinding the keyring eyelet off? easy to do? how's the finished product look...is it noticeable and/or rough to the touch or were you able to smooth it out pretty nicely? thanks!

It´s one of my very favourite knives period:thumbup:
And that saw works just as good on PVC piping to make a blow rod for my son as on brances that have grown a bit out of hand;)

The black Classic and my silver Farmer has been my carry combo of the past week.

How about a Farmer with

main blade
awl
saw
small blade
combo tool

Same layer count, still get to open cans/bottles, turn screws, light prying, and adds in the small pen blade. Has that been made yet? They could call it the Chicken Farmer :D (Bantam has the combo tool)

You ever pull out the toothpick of a SAK and wonder, 'now just where the hell has this been?'

I carried the pair pictured below for the last year or so.

Honestly, the Farmer just got taken out of rotation for a little while just to mix things up.
I actually use the flathead and half-philips screwdrivers nearly everyday. The bottle opener gets used quite a bit as well.
The can opener hasn't been used yet as a can opener, but like I said, the half-philips tip gets used constantly.

It doesn't hold the best edge, but makes up for it by being, quite possibly, the most useful knife in my stable. A few swipes on a crock stick every other day or so keeps it sharp enough to pop hair, so as long as I remember to do that, everything is allright.

The Farmer is by far my favorite SAK, with the electrician pulling in a distant second.
That black farmer pictured above is the bee's knees though. I really need to track one of those down.

I cut it off with a Dremel cut off wheel, then brought it down flush to the scales on my belt sander. It is not noticeable and not difficult to do. Take your time, and go slow.

That suspension clip is nice, I do the same thing with the clip off of an old micron light, it works great and. You can save about $12.

I like my Farmer, but I do have some other SAKs that I also like. I have a Trekker which gives me a bigger blade (locking too) and a longer saw. I also have a Ranger which gives me more tools including a really good file, scissors, saw, large & small blades, tweezers, toothpick and more. I have a cadet which is alox like the farmer, but smaller & lighter - no saw though. My Cybertool 34 is vital as an everyday carry because I am a computer tech and the Cybertool has VERY useful tools for a computer tech.

None of my SAKs beat any of the others in every way, they each have their good points and ways in which they are better. The farmer may not have the toothpick or tweezers, but it does have a thinner profile for more comfortable pocket carry and the tools on it are pretty useful.

I have to disagree about the tool being better without the can opener & bottle opener - those are VERY important tools to have on any SAK. The bottle opener is also a flat screwdriver and a (light duty) pry tool - there is no way that you would want to be without that versatile tool! The can opener is also a small flat screwdriver and is usable on many phillips screws as well. As a can opener it is a really good tool and doesn't even leave jagged edges on the can, if you need to open a can then the Victorinox would be my favourite pocket carry folding can opener by far!

So then: The Farmer can handle flat & phillips screws, bottles & cans, sawing wood or plastic, cutting stuff & making holes in stuff. What's not to like?

I almost never EDC my farmers... i got several of them becouse i love how nicely its build, very comfortable in my hand and so beautiful in my eyes...but i not have any needs for the saw, so alox soldier actually got carry more by me... if i go outdoors, i'll pocket a farmer in a heart beat...

Ive been looking at those p7 clips , they are 12 bucks. Im not springing for one. Right now im suspending my SAKs with a couple of little cheap caribeaners and a piece of paracord.I hang it form a belt loop into the pocket.

I use the Flathead and Half-Phillips more often than any other blade on my Farmer. Those two blades are the reason I always have it in my pocket.
