What do you look for in a maker's website?

Throwing in my voice to re-emphasize the point about posting prices, in case other makers are looking at this thread. I hate it when there are no prices listed, whether it's on a website or at a show. Please don't use it to initiate conversation. Talking about money is uncomfortable for many people, so it's not a good conversation or inquiry starter at all. Like John T Wylie, I've been driven away from websites or tables where I have no idea what the maker is charging for a knife or to have a similar knife done.

1. fast loading website without third party ads

2. pictures are great, good quality is a must, but professional pictures are not essential...links to a photo website like photobucket are a turn off to me

3. prices of some sort are essential. either have a stock price list with options or post prices with galleries, just make sure they are reasonably up to date

4. i like a biographical section. if people know something about you they will feel more comfortable sending you orders. this is not directed to you, but makers should be careful posting biographical info or links that may be turnoffs to your intended market. if you have beliefs/views outside the mainstream or are controversial ..avoid advertising them. for instance i liked a knife i saw a maker post long ago, his website was full of references to his unusual lifestyle. i did not buy.

5. have real contact info. i'm not sending an order to someone who only provides an email. you do not have to publish your physical address online but i consider it a positive when contemplating an order
