I gotta ask. When you are considering a new knife purchase, What takes priority?

Is it blade steel, F&F, ergonomics, price, or manufacturer's reputation? Just to name a few.

It could be anything. Packaging, shipping, country of origin, anything

What are the top three most important things YOU normally look for in a new knife?

All of those matter to me(other than packaging), but if only three...

*Ergonomics - I much prefer a straight handle, or one close to it.
*F&F
* Manufacturers reputation

F&F, reputation, and quality go without saying.

As far as aesthetics, I look for slim and thin profiles with thin blade stock. I love carbon fiber, ironwood, and black lip pearl to name a few qualities I enjoy.

For example, here are few favorites of mine:

If there's something about a certain knife that tickles my pickle, I'm more inclined to go out of my way to get one.
Next is cost. Unless the blade is just something I HAVE to have if the blade costs too much, I won't get it. Strider falls under this category for me. I'd love to have one, but there's no way I'd pay retail for one.
Generally speaking, the warranty is what makes/breaks it for me if I'm on the edge of a particular knife.

I look for the best quality that I can get for whatever my budget is for a particular purchase. I think "quality" and "manufacturer's reputation" are basically two ways to say the same thing.

Fit and Finish, the attention to detail from a maker.
Steel, a variety is good to have to determine what best fits your daily uses.
Reputation/Resell value of a knife. It's good to know if one has to sell a knife, recouping most of the cost makes it bearable.

The maker or company is very important...and that's basic. That narrows it down a LOT.
It has to fit my hand...in closed length, grip width, scale type, blade length, blade-steel.
