What Do You Mainly Use Your Beckers For?

I mostly take photos of mine, and also like to mod them, but really don't get much blade time in. What BK blade do you use most often, and for what?

Lately, I have been using the 7 and 17 the most. Primarily, the use is general bushcraft/camping chores. To be honest, it has been 110 for so long here, that I haven't really been motivated to get outside, but I have carved a couple of spoons with them at home. I use the 7 to rough out a proper stick, and then the 17 and a crook knife to finish it off.

Also, the 17 goes with me every day, so it gets the odd duty of cutting string, boxes, envelopes, etc. I only WISH I had your kind of skill with a camera so I could memorialize some of my knives.

I only have a 9 at this point, but I used it to destroy a ton of cedar saplings. I have not had it for too long so that is about all I have used it for so far. Wanting to get a 2 next to try out camping.

Heck I dunno,
Opening bags of chips,
Opening bottles,
Cleaning deer,
Cutting steak,
Cutting apples,
Spreading butter, cream cheese, peanut butter, etc.,
Opening new knife boxes,
Cleaning my nails,
Cutting paper - just because,
Cutting paper for very good reasons,
Opening envelopes,
Splitting wood,
Making kindling,
Making feather sticks / shavings,
Making spoons,
Making forks,
Making chairs,
Making snares,
Making tomahawk handles,
Making goofy improvised weapons in the woods,
Clearing shooting lanes,
Building blinds,
Eradicating annoying vines, branches, sasquatches, etc.,
Making sandwiches,
Cutting sandwiches,
Making strops,
Making and dressing walking sticks,
Balancing the other Becker on the other side of my belt,
Looking cool,
Cleaning fish,
Cutting line,
General mayhem,
Probably other stuff.

Why do you ask?

I mostly carry a half dozen or more around in the floorboard of my Jeep to help lower gas mileage.

Only have 1 so this one is photo's only, The 9 is next and that will be used and abused

To be honest, probably opening packaging or cooking. The BK13 is my little office slicer (shares time, probably losing time, to the Cadiru) that I use for opening packages and doing the occasional cord, drywall, or whatever else I need. The next think is cooking tasks. Whether it's slicing up venison or boning a bird, the BK15 is excellent at that and I like it more than a lot of my kitchen knives. The BK9 pitches in when we're camping to split wood for kindling. I find it much safer than the little hatchet for that job.

I guess the reason I ask is because I just don't use my knives that much. Thought perhaps I was overlooking some things. I carry my Wave, and use it on occasion, but still not that much. Just there if I need it.

I don't spend a lot of time out in the wilderness. I don't get to do a lot of bush-crafty type stuff with my knives. However I am always carrying a 14, and usually carrying either the 16/17/Esee3 for my mundane everyday tasks. Yesterday I was at the hospital and the doctor was using my 3 to break through some plaster on a cast. We were just seeing what we could do with it.

LOL-Yup, all that & more. ^^^

Weeding in the garden---getting out all the roots. Whoa !!! needed a SERIOUS resharpening after that.
Making paths
Poison ivy/Oak removal
gifting to family
testing against other knives. BK&T is the standard by which i judge all my other blades
letting others use them at every reasonable opportunity. Most are usually hooked from that point on & become (see above).
deer processing-can't wait to use the BK15 for that
etc
etc

Customizing mostly :). The 16 is my designated user knife at the moment since its not really modded beyond a set of green micarta scales. EDCing a blade in a public environment is illegal so knives dont have a huge part in my everyday life but I still try and incorporate them when I can. I keep all my blades locked away in my garage so when I actually need a use the damn things its quicker to reach for my Stanley knife or a pair of scissors. Remora, from now on your on package opening duty :D.

Clearing branches on trees that "need" to be cut, gardening stuff, cutting composit shims (those really screw up the edge btw.), everything else mentioned above.

I guess it's more a choice of tools. There are a lot of jobs that I could do with something else (and often do), but many times I choose to use a knife instead. Fortunately, most people I work with aren't afraid of seeing a blade in use, so I get to carry and use them more than most people I know. When I strap a tweener to my pack or belt and go on a hike, either people don't tend to notice or they don't care.

I use both my 9 and my 2 in my garden when trimming rose bushes or prying roots and such, my BK14 is my day hike knife and is usually put to the task of food prep on the trail as well as other small utility chores, I use my BK13 around the house when I want to keep a small fixed blade in my pocket, I use it often to open packages and cut small food items (limes for beer :)) and my 16 is supposed to be my belt knife for backpacking but I'll let you know when I finally get around to doing that haha.

My EDC since january has been my BK-11. I use it at work for cutting plastic straps in the warehouse and cutting slits in shrink wrap to read labels. At home I often shave with it. I've used it for some minor automotive repair.

I use my BK-5 and BK-15 as my main knives in the kitchen and for butchering. The BK-5 also serves nicely in the role of a short machete.

Sometimes I will take the BK-9HH or BK-7 out in the woods instead, or hack something up with my Patrol Machete, but I always come back to the BK-5.

Thanks for the responses.

I thought about getting a 5 for the wife, for the kitchen. I'm sure she'd love it.

BK-9 gets used the most, processing wood for backyard and camp fires.

Got 8 Beckers, but I don't use FBs all that much and I've got so many including non-Beckers that they're always getting rotated (and I'm crazy in love with the Izula, so...).

Phat Bob and GEC Conductor by far are my most-used knives.

Hmm... really don't know how to assess that, because I do virtually all the cooking here. Mostly because I'm a better cook :D but after many years of experience using a large knife to cut meat, I'm also pretty fast at it.

Many of the folks I show the BK-5 to in the kitchen think it's a bit much... until I show how it's not only a superb butcher knife, but also a competent meat cleaver, all in one package.

Many times I've used it to slaughter some hogs then use it a bit later to cut up that same meat for dinner.

What can I say? It makes my dogs happy. BK-5 makes the pork happen.
