What do you stay away from when it comes to slipjoints?

I guess I haven't had enough experiences to know what specifically to avoid. My avoidances are much more general:

- Knives that don't appeal to me aesthetically - includes shape/pattern, handle material, blade embellishment.
- Knives that cost more than I can justify to myself
- Knives that are too large or unwieldy for me to ever carry or find a practical use for in my daily life.
- Knives that are clearly intended to be collectable display pieces and not used or carried.
- Knives with pictures, religious symbols or sayings, or names of celebrities on the handles or blades (ties in with my first point).
- Them leg things *shudder*

Obviously if I were personally inspecting a knife, then poorly placed nail-nicks, bad fit and finish, poorly ground blades, and other quality defects would come into play as things to avoid. When buying mail-order I'm having to depend on brand reputation and manufacturer's warranty, so I guess I should add "cheaply made knives from manufacturers who won't stand behind their products."
