DLC or black coated blades (no glint from any light sources) or satin blades with brightly colored handles?

I was already kinda thinking the same, darn now I have to buy an orange CTS PM2. The reason I asked was I drive a truck in all 48 states so whatever I can do to keep a low profile is what I try to do.

Cant go wrong with that choice. Pretty big blade though if you want to keep low profile. When I came to visit my parents I whipped out my 0560 and first thing my Mother said was that looks like a weapon. So just an example of how some non knife enthusiasts look at them.

Definitely satin is less threatening. Someone the other day made a funny comment(something about Rambo or something) when I used my SOG Visionary I which has a 3inch blade but is TiNi coated. They did admire the smoothness of the action though.

Yes, most certainly black is considered more "tactical" than satin, simply because it's meant to keep the knife less visible. It's quite a bit more military looking.
When I'm at work I usually carry an orange handled Endura, with a stonewashed blade. Safety orange definitely makes a blade look like a tool.

I haven't the sightest idea why, but as others have stated the color black on any potential weapon makes sheeple squirm. I believe my most menacing folder to be my big, black , beefy ZT200. I don't EDC it a whole lot anymore but when I did I always got weird looks from non knife folks when I used it in public.

satin and bright colors makes it stand out more, and that shows that you have nothing to hide. non knife people are less put on edge if you're more noticeable and open about it without going so far as standing on a roof and announcing it.

Black is associated with stealth, death, authority, power, dominance, masculinity, and many other things. Silver is just a shiny grey, which is much more neutral and made even more so by virtue of the fact that it's the natural color of steel.
This one sometimes confuses people though:

Appreciatecthe feedback all, pretty unanimous too. Thought that might be the case, didnt take into account the 'tactical' aspect of black blades but non-knife folk would see it that way very true.

lol true, pm2 aint the smallest out there. Orange mini-grip it is! :grumpy:

don't get me wrong that is a nice mini grip. Green delica would work too.

Ehh, even with satin blades, some are threatening. I brought over a couple new knives to my moms to show my brothers and upon my mom seeing my stonewashed Tilt, she pretty much freaked out at it.

In my opinion I think a satin blade(a shiny blade) can be more threatening under certain circumstances. But not with a colorful handle.

Well once someone commented about my "BLACK knife"... emphasis on the word black!

However black is less noticeable particularly in sunlight. A bright flash appearing in your hand can be pretty menacing as well, so it all depends on whether they see the knife or not.
