what do you think is less threatening

Back when I worked at a local knife shop (did so for years) I did a mental experiment with customers. I'd take two Benchmade Mini Griptilians, one with black handle/blade and one with the satin/blue combo and ask them which one looked more threatening. Sometimes I'd phrase the question as which one looked friendlier. The results were consistent. The black/black was "scary" and the blue/satin was "friendly." 100% of the time, too. I don't remember a single exception.

Satin blades. If a LEO were to stop you while carrying a simple drop point or clip point blade with no coating, and you told him that it was purely for utilitarian purposes, he'd most likely believe you. If one stopped you while carrying something like a Cold Steel Recon 1 whether or not it was clip or drop point, he'd most likely have a hard time believing your only purpose for carrying that blade was cutting cardboard boxes up. Black coated blades are often considered "tactical".

alright new question, which colored izula would be less threatening, venom green or fire ant red?

I haven't the sightest idea why, but as others have stated the color black on any potential weapon makes sheeple squirm. I believe my most menacing folder to be my big, black , beefy ZT200. I don't EDC it a whole lot anymore but when I did I always got weird looks from non knife folks when I used it in public.
I EDC mine and use it like any other knife. Might as well, since some people will freak out simply because someone has a knife in the first place. Doesn't really matter much what type it is if they're still going to freak regardless, even if you're not doing anything remotely threatening.

People are weird anymore.

I consider any person who judges me by the color of my knife to be an IDIOT. And I don't care what idiots think about anything.

I don't know how many times I've read on this forum about sheeple getting freaked-out by a SAK (polished blade, bright red handle, most non-threatening design imaginable).

I've been using knives in front of other people for over three decades, and I've been carrying a fixed-blade openly, in public, for about 7 years now. Despite all this, not a single person has ever freaked-out on me or called the cops on me.

I use my knives in a lawful and reasonable manner, I never try to be threatening or intimidating with them, I don't play with them in public (or private). But I also don't try to hide my knives, or their use, as if posessing or using a knife is something I should be ashamed of.

I bought one-hand opening folders specifically because I wanted folders that I could open quickly with one hand, and that's exactly how I open them.

I couldn't care less what people think about my knives, how I open them, or how I use them.

DLC- can't really make it out if you're discreet about it; not waving it around and cutting with it like in a show and tell session. It draws a different kind of interest, from a different kind of person.

I'm thinking the black blade sitting on a table is less threatening than the satin blade tickling their eyelashes. ;)
