What do you think is the most iconic knife?

I saw in Blade magazine some years ago, that in a world wide survey of instant recognition of brands, the Victorinox was third after Coca-Cola number 1, and Bic number 2. Add in the fact that Victorinox is the largest knife factory on earth, and sell more knives world wide, I think everyone on the planet will know what that red handle pocket knife is with the Swiss cross on it is.

For me growing up in the sixties for pocket knives it was SAK, and a Case trapper. Fixed blades were Kabar and western style bowie.

ya for the "regular civilians" lol I would say the SAKS.

For knife people I'd say sebenza.

I got a sebenza but no SAK :(

As for iconic type of knife linked to a particular brand, Victorinox has to win.

An iconic shape not linked to a brand, for Americans it has to be either the Bowie pattern or the symmetrical double edged dagger along the lines of Fairbairn-Sykes, but this is an iconic shape for centuries now.

In modern times, I would say the machete. How many horror movies featured them through the years? Going further back, the dagger would be the most recognizable.

Buck 110, SAK and Kabar Mk II. Carry any of these or something remotely similar, and people still refer to them by name, "buck knife, KABAR, and Swiss Army knife." They've become generic terms for knives.
