What do you think of my new blade

Hi all,

Thanks all for the very kind words on the Deweese pattern type knife I made.
When I looked at the forums later on this day / evening I was like WOW at all the comments. I also see that Pitdog started and woods bumming thread and mentioned me in there to. Thanks Pit lol.

Anrkst6973, Thanks. glad you like it the looks of this knife. As to the screw type of pins no, I have not done anything with that type of pin. maybe in the future.

You know to answer some ?s on the feel when using this knife I am really pleased with it. It feels great with what cutting I have done so far. I am really looking forward to seeing how well it does with skinning and processing that steer up that we have here on the farm.

I did not say what steel I used on this one in my first post. I used 0-1 for the steel for this knife. The next one I make for me though I am going to use A-2. I like that steel also.

I know E. Kreps wrote in his camping book that he liked his knife to have a 4.5" long blade and a 4" long handle. He also like the little thicker blade steel of 5/32" for his personal knife. So I am going to try one out in that thickness also. I love to read about the old time campers and how they camped back in what I would call the olden days.

Just for fun here is the one I did for another fellow.

I did not do the file work though another guy did that. At the time I did not have any of the knife making files so I did not do that. Now I do, so anyways.

As to the price, like what I made for me, they cost around $110 for knife and a sheath. If you wanted thicker steel or differnent handles, mosasic pins stuff like that. Then the price would most likly be different. I used brass pins instead of SS just because it gives the knife a more old timey looks and the vinger patina I think added to that look also.

Pitdog thanks for posting that pic. Is that one you have? If so could you give the specs on it? Just wondering.

Augest west, LOL I like your comment. What you said it so true. Yes I like this knife so far. Like I said this is my woodsbumming knife that rides now, 24/7 in my pack next to my axe.

By the way all I have a different pack and I need to do a review of it. It is still a sling type of bag but WOW I love it. I can even carry more suppies if I need to lol. SOOOOOO lol. So much for knowing more and carrying less lol. I am one of them guys that does not mind carrying a few extra oz.s lol.

Thanks again all, for the kind comments on this knife I made.

Take care,

Bryan

Looks good Bryan, a nice clean simple design. I have some thoughts on a Sorjourner variation that would look reeeeaally good with that Osage as a handle, I'll have to remember that if I get to where I can afford to have it done in the future.

No Bryan not mine, I had never heard of them before and so looked them up and found that photo !
$110 is a great price and I agree with the brass pins they give a nicer old timey look and just get better with age !
The one ya made for the other guy looks slightly re-curve, is that just an illusion of the pic ?

Hi all,

mistwalker, thanks. Yea a Sojourner would look sweet with some Osage handle scales. I think cocobolo would cool too.

Pitdog, Ok I see. yea the Brass really does look old timey lol.
You know a I am not sure about the slight recurve. I made Mike's (codger 64) knife about a year or so back. I think it is just a slight recurve. Maybe Mike will chim in .

Bryan

Bumping this up for Codger64, and 'cause it's a dang nice knife:D

I love it! The handle lines go well with the blade style. How many head do ya'll got over there. We had 8 Angus steers this year, but we normally just fatten them up and sell them. I'm trying to convince everyone to let me keep and attempt to butcher one. It never works though.

Hello Bryan, I've been looking at your knife for a few days now. My first impression was I like it. Now after a few days, I figure I have all the knives I need or want, I'm thinking I could make room for one more.
