I was interested by some of their patters and wanted to know how are the knives? They are supposed to be top-notch--has this been your experience?

Thanks

The 2 I have are both really nice and in my opinion excellent value for money.

Well, I like S&M knives and saying "Schatt n Morgan" sounds like yer cussin in German.

:p

Yes, v. nice knives, but aimed more towards collectors than users. the "File & Wire" ones have the better blade steel: ATS-34. like most Queen knives, plan on re-profiling the edge grind & sharpening it yourself if you want a sharp cutting, as well as sharp looking, knife.

Very good F&F but too much embellishment for my tastes. Also, 420 is overused. Would be well served to switch to 1095 or a "higher end" stainless (D2 or similar).

its a beast though but it doesnt stop me from carrying it occasionally:D
2004 Wildcat Driller:thumbup: 4 1/2 inches closed:eek: Definitely gets wide eyed looks when you pull this out to something for somebody:)
1) F&F is slightly above most Case but i will say that they have a more elegant feel to them, maybe not quite as hardy as Case.
2) The 420 Sharpens up easily and works just fine, not quite as easy to keep sharp as Case CV or Surgical Stainless
3) Love the Vintage/Retro Box too:thumbup:
I wouldnt hesitate to buy another S&M, but man o' man i would be hurting if they offered them in Carbon Steel:)

I have several with 420 HC and ATS-34 both, they all perform well for a pocket knife. I don't think you can find a more traditional knife today in production.. As you probably know they are manufactured by Queen Cutlery.....

The quality of each one I've purchased has been top-notch. I do think they should provide a better steel on the standard models though, considering the price.

I only have one, the Scout. With golden amber bone and excellent fit and finish, I'm very pleased with it. However, I've decided I have enough traditional looking knives in stainless. From now on it's carbon all the way.
When and if S&M go to carbon I'II happily buy many more as their available patterns are exceptional.
If you like stainless, they have to be among the top choices.

I find S&M to be a fine knife.

The F&F is excellent.
The little details makes for good knife.
The swedgeing is good, soft edged not a clean grind like in Queen, that is a difference in style.
The bone and the jigging is very well done with a good choice in the different types.
There is a very wide range of different patterns, not your usual patterns.

The Stag on the peanut I got from Thomson is superb!

I find the 420HC to be a good SS, not better or worse than Case.
Yes I would love them in D2!
The blades are highly polished with the etching that S&M does, but not intusive.

They are users!!

I have basically stopped purchasing other brands.
I would rather wait.
You can find very good prices on eBay and certain other online sellers.
At these prices I find them to be very competative as these are very high quality knives

I've only owned a couple but both were (are) first rate.

The Series IX stockman (ATS-34) remains a favorite for the fit/finish and great grinds and scales.

I have a limited run Harness Jack with 1095 steel. It's one of my favorite knives and has the best fit and finish of any production slipjoint I own. The problem is that S&M does not offer very many knives in 1095, most of their stuff has 420HC blades. No thank you. Still, I have to admit that Schatt & Morgan makes a hell of a knife.

Oh yeah, I forgot that I have that one too. (Thanks, Charlie & Ken!)

Great knife!

I have the same top two knives that Peter Parker has. They are both excellent but the railsplitter (the topmost one) is truly excellent. Fit and finish is top notch, bone color is deep, glossy and with flawless jigging, good medium strong springs with great walk and talk and the blades were all super sharp. I like 'em a lot!

I agree,the S&M & Queen knives,too,are top notch.
My latest one ,I dabbled in,is the 3.5" swell center whittler, from the newest series. It is quite a marvel.
I also would like to add,I purchased it from Collector knives dot net,and they,(Mike) , was a pleasure to deal with,as well as very fair pricing.
These are high quality production slipjoints.
