What do you think of Schatt & Morgan?

What models are these?

Schatt & Morgan TimeWorn Red Bone Grandaddy Barlow

Queen Schatt&Morgan 2008 Series XVIII, Bare End English Jack Pennsylvania Brown Berry Worn Worm Groove Bone

Peter Parker, I have that style of Harness Jack but in Green Bone

Well-finished knife, very good bone jig,S&M do that admirably well.Nice size to this knife, not over bulky. Strong spring on mine which I like but the punch feels a wee bit flimsy compared to the main blade or other punches I've seen.

Series XVII (2007) Timeworn Redbone Horticulturalist's knife (why can't they say 'Gardener's' ?)I own is also a nice knife with a handy sheepsfoot secondary blade. Again, very appealing bone jig. It is based on the Small Jack Premier model which has stainless liners rather than brass. Amazingly pretty bone on this one too. Vexed by blade wobble which both models display on both blades though.

Awaiting delivery of a Barehead English Jack XVIII series like the knife Alfaholic displayed in an earlier post. Big knife with those curious worm groove scales and a mega Sheepsfoot as main blade. Gross wormwood:D

Well, I like S&M knives and saying "Schatt n Morgan" sounds like yer cussin in German.

:p

Well, you have a point there, but I still think I'd have an easier time with that than telling the women in the office that I'm into S&M :D

I have three or four S&M's and they all are very well made - as good or better than any other production slipjoint I've had, and the quality has been consistently high.

Willgoy,

What is the lengths of the two blades?
Could you measure them?

Thanks

neeman, certainly:thumbup:

Main clip: 7.2cm / 2 & 13 sixteenths" approx. This is total blade length not cutting edge .

Sheepfoot secondary: 4.8cm /shade under 2" 1&15 sixteenths inch.

That small blade is surprisingly handy.

The Premier Small English Jack I mentioned is the same knife body but has stainless liners. 2 spear point/long pen? blades with long match pulls side by side. Main blade 7.7cm secondary 5.3cm

I have the same top two knives that Peter Parker has. They are both excellent but the railsplitter (the topmost one) is truly excellent. Fit and finish is top notch, bone color is deep, glossy and with flawless jigging, good medium strong springs with great walk and talk and the blades were all super sharp. I like 'em a lot!

I agree! My sowbelly actually has perfect fit back springs, and all the blades actually had even edges:eek:!

willgoy I like the look of that Harness Jack I'm disappointed to hear of the punch blade. My cattleknife on the bottom of my S&M picture has the best punch I've seen on a slippy! Until I learned the proper way to open it it would peal my skin a little!

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but my real name is Sam and my wife's name is Melissa. For 26+ years now we've been "S&M", enjoying the double entendre the whole while. She loves the logo.

And I agree on the knives, too. Some of the more beautiful, well fitted in my collection. I have half a dozen or so.

I suspect that willgoy got one that slipped threw the cracks out free of S&M's quality control. I'm here to tell you that I've owned more than just a few Schatt & Morgan's over the years and they have all been either perfect for me or pretty damn close to perfect from they're fit and finish to the good loud and smooth walk n' talk and strong springs.

Here are but a few of mine..

Peter Parker and Anthony, thanks for your concern. The punch on my Harness is not bad at all, certainly does not merit returning it but it is rather thin and I'm a bit reluctant to stab any thick leather with it! Otherwise,an excellently turned out knife, just my worrying nature on overtime....

Thanks for posting these pictures. What knife is this?

S&M Harness Jack in carbon and Greenbone scales I suspect. Fine photos certainly(as always!)

Thanx for the photo comment.. Yup..The HJ is in old 1095 hi-carbon and jigged bone(that looks green but was called something else I think and I just can't recall right now )..

I am a big Harness Jack fan. Here is another S&M Harness Jack design from many years ago that was also res-erected by Charlie. I EDC this bad boy because its sooo useful and I really like old style Teardrop Jackknives..

I love S&M knives! I have a few now, and plan on getting more. I like that Wildcat Driller nice pics Ivankerly! It is also on my list. I have a Moose, and it is a fistful. I like the swedges and the bone scales. I would like to see some other blade steel options. That would probably make me more knife rich and dollar poor.

Schatt & Morgan are the production knives that I collect. :D And in my opinion they re the top American made production knife out there. BUT for the most part they are collectors knives. And that is the way Queen promotes them. Most of the Annual Series knives & most of the SFO's are 420 high carbon SS.
The File & Wire line has ATS-34 steel with a few exceptions. But with just a couple of exceptions all the F&W knives are quite large, 4 1/4" +
But I love um! And for a moden production knife they have gained in value over time, which can not be said for most other brands.

Sunnyd, that Teardrop makes a fine battery terminal cleaner! Really attractive pattern, I believe it's stainless and that's useful for corrosive tasks. The punch is a handy probe tool . I'd like to get hold of one of those knives, hard to find though.

Looking on my box it says No.99 Harness Jack Green Jig Bone. All I know is, it's a very decent piece of bone.
