What do you think of the 6mm ARC?

I just ran into a guy at the range last week with a brand new AR in 6mm ARC. I had previously read a couple of articles on it so knew what he had. He was surprised I knew what it was as nobody else had.

I can easily see why SpecOps would want and use something like this. Better performance in a lighter package. Sure a .308 can do the same jobs, but at a weight cost. Its the old balancing act for foot troops, performance versus weight/bulk.

Another specialty round with a narrow application that will get huge publicity because of Spec Ops usage that doesn't apply to the vast majority of civilian buyers.

Personally, I did the 300BO thing and now shoot 300 H'AMR. For feral hog eradication where I will loose brass, I shoot the previous Spec Ops darling, the 6.8SPC.

You should really define what you intend to shoot first and at what ranges. Then pick the cartridge. Instead, people buy the cartridge and try to make it work where ever.

The 6.8SPC and 6.5Grendel both have magazine issues unless you are using an LWRC Six8 with 6.8SPC but, at >$2K, that heavy pig don't hunt for most folks. In fact, I shoot my PSA 6.8SPC most because it is really accurate and weighs about 10 pounds less.

For most people with poorly defined objectives, if you already own a good 5.56 rifle, the 300 H'AMR is the best choice IMHO. That's not say the others don't have merit but, special magazines, bolts, etc. are not worth the minor differences in performance at distances most people will never shoot.
