these are all made out of 1/4" O1 toolsteel. I saw a Randall Astro and really like it, but couldn't afford one so i made one. first attempt at sheath making, too.. black linen micarta, with hollow in handle, just like original. first attempt at silver soldering. finished about maybe 4 years ago

this one was my second attempt. convex grind with G11 scales that i whacked off a big slab. notice skull crusher at bottom...no sheath yet. finished about 2 or 3 years ago

just finished this one this week....kind of a Bob Loveless style hunter. first hollow grind effort. curly maple handle. Started about 3 years ago.

I was going to say the same thing. Also, the pins/screws are larger than I'd use.

The first one has kind of an old school military look to it, I like it. The third one is pretty darn nice. I think it deserves a better sheath. Good work.

I'm diggin' the Randall Astro influence on the first one. It's funny because I just cut one out very similar to that. Are the scales removable?

Very cool! The tough looking guard and big pins are old school all the way.

The moment I saw the first one I thought it resembled a Randall, great job!

i used stainless bolts and nuts to hold the astro scales on. i slotted them so you could take a coin and remove them. i milled a small slot in the tang, and a corresponding cut in the scale to make a small compartment for a few survival items, like fishing line, and hooks, etc. the last one, the pins are 5/16 with 1/4 threads. a little bigger than planned, bit i think it looks pretty good. the astro, i was just copied from a picture of an original, online, and the bottom 2 i made to feel good in my hand, which they do. none are really practical, being 1/4 inch thick, and they will probable never really get used, even though they could be. just made them to make them. i think i enjoyed making my welding table and 2x72 grinder as much as making the knives. just like using all the stuff in the shop. knives are just one thing that people seem to enjoy looking at and touching.

I like them all but especially the top one. I also like the size of the pins. It's a style that works well on your patterns. Run with it!
