What do you think of this hamon?

I was experimenting on carbon steels I've got. This one is clay coated and quenched in a fast HT oil. Steel is UHB 26C (uddeholm, C-1,25 Si-0,22 MN-0,37 P-max 0,02 S-max 0,01 Cr-0,15 )

I have etched this at least 5 times in a 5% nitric acid, hand rubbed with 2000 X and rubbed with 3 Micron Cerium Oxide. Do you think it is OK? I ask because I haven't handled a knife with hamon before (just some failing tests of mine)..

Never heard of that steel before.

So is this blade just a test? If not I am a little puzzled at its intended use.

It's a Uddeholm product. Bought from here: https://www.nordellknives.com/portal/index.php?option=com_oscommerce&osMod=index&cPath=156_165&language=en..

Yes it is a test piece and I sharpened it and tested the edge holding, then broke to see how durable is it, which tempering will give me the most suitable hardness etc. There are a dozen of test pieces like that they austenized different temps, different soak times, different quench mediums. Some of the 1095 and UHB 26C test are great success, BTW some brine quenched 1095 pieces have survived :D (%10 salt concentration) ...

I think the hamon turned out good. I'm just experimenting with hamons myself and have yet to have one turn out that well in oil. Good job.

Emre,
It looks good. The development of the subtle clouds shows well, even on such a small blade. Try using red rouge to do the final rub ( never buff) on the next one. It can make the borders clearer.

Thanks all, if you think it is a good hamon than I'm on the right track...
Stacy, I'll try tomorrow with red iron dioxide which is my mother's glaze material, I hope it'll work..
