What Do You Think Of This Knife?

To me, it looks like another run of the mill tac folder. But you may decide to get it. Really your call. Because it's new, there's nothing to base the customer service on or how "nice" of a company it is. Aus 8 steel isn't bad, but not the best for sure. And g10 is also standard on most knives these days. So that being said it's your call. The price isn't too bad if it's a tough, good blade, but we don't know if that's true yet. It also doesn't say where it's made, at leas t not that I saw..

Reminds me of a 5.11.

I wouldn't get it because it's tip down only and it looks like it will be fat in the pocket.

If you can swing it, go for it! Pictures are a must.

I thought that about the 5.11 likeness as well! I actually like tip down for some things and tip up for others. I just am weary about how the deep carry clip overlaps the blade when open; not sure if it will be a problem.

So the opening hole has a plate that is then screwed into the blade itself? That's bizarre. Says Taiwan on the blade in a couple of the pictures. Could be a decent value for the price, but in that range I'd rather get a Delica or Endura.

If I were in the market for a "tactical" AUS8 knife for "operators", I'd just pick up one of the heavily discounted Cold Steel AUS8 models.

Like the Spyderco cobra hood.

I thought that was bizarre as well, but it's also something different! I too would take a Delica or Endura first, but if you already have both of those, I'm thinking this might be something different to play around with.

I don't like the screwed on thumb bridge... can't see the point... and why does it need to come with extra screws? Are they planning on it falling apart? For the money I'd go with a known variable... if they want to drum up business they should do a give away and get some knives out that people can do reviews on before expecting people to drop money on a total unknown... that's how I got started...

To be fair, the screw on thumb plate seems like it would be really easy to set up for a wave mod. Too bad the tip down carry makes that meaningless.

I did some research; turns out the original founder of 5.11 Tactical sold the company and started First Tactical. I have mixed feelings about their knives, but 5.11 was always a hit with their other products, at least for me. If Dan Costa is as serious with First Tactical as he was with 5.11, I think we may have a winner on our hands! Just my opinion, anyway.

This is exactly how I feel about it as well. Very mediocre. I also think liner locks don't belong on tactical folders, which are far better served by lockbacks.

This. This so much.

id say avoid it and spend a few dollars more and go with spyderco delica or benchmade griptillian or Kershaw leek or blur

Looks like crap

1. Crappy AUS8 at a price range you could be using better steel
2. Thumb bridge looks sketchy as hell, I imagine the screws will fall out into your pocket and get lost in the wash.
3. Grinds look like poo.
4. The rest looks generic

Lockbacks?

Liner/Frame locks on tac style folders are pretty common. In fact really common.

Bit of a sidebar but I lost respect for 5.11 when it split from Royal Robins and became its own brand and deviated from quality field wear into gadgets and tacticool gear.

Gadgets? Yes, they sell knives, flashlights, and watches, but they also sell a TON of uniform apparel and duty gear, all of which has quality on par with other uniform companies...

Correct, and I consider this a sad thing. Tactical folders are supposed to be "hard use", and liner/frame locks are not hard use locks. Absolutely, you can put those knives to work for sure, but if they take certain impacts they become guillotines for your fingers.

I prefer lockbacks, the Axis lock or best of all the Tri-Ad lock.
