It's a MOD Caracara. I'd probably get a Spyderco Civilian or one of their other hawkbill variants just because they're considerably cheaper and the quality would be comparable. You might want to check them out before you buy.

looks like a loser in the knife fight arena unless your'e against stabs or thrusts.........that is linear thrusts...could be used for some angular stuff but why limit yourself

Actually, hawkbills are pretty much made for SD. Just slash like crazy and get the hell out of there. Some people find them useful for everyday stuff but I'd rather have something like that strictly for SD. I can find a box cutter for way less than $300.

Gerber, looks like Zytel handles, MUCH cheaper than the first knife. Instead of posting different knives, ask in the main forum which knife people think you should get. Tell them things like:
-What knives you already have
-What you plan on using the knife for
-Your price range

There are many people here that can reccommend you great knives based on your criteria..just go ask ;)

I avoid serrations. How do you sharpen them? I cannot.

I have one knife with serrations, early Benchmade Bali with nickel plating, and everytime I handle/flip it I wish it was a plain edge. Like nails on a blackboard.

It is hard enough sharpening plain edges well.

I like the overall black color, lanyard hole, and flipper on that Gerber. I wonder how robust the black coating will prove to be (might break your heart as it scratches and wears off). What is the blade steel? Is the handle gripy or slick (looks like it might be gripy with the texturing)?

Best,

oregon

I like the CaraCara because it is a Ti framelock, but it costs an arm and a leg. I have seen one in person. The action is smooth, but the fit and finish is poor. The scale and frame don't match up and there are actually dings on parts of the handle. And the price is something like $275.
