What do you think of this knife?

Sorry Inspector True you asked an honest question from your point of view and mostly what you got in response was a load of bull coming from guys who are desperate not to think of themselves as geeks. I LL do my best to give you a straight answer. The first knife you posted is intended for self defense but for the most part any one single attribute of a knife , A large curved blade in this case, doesnt make it more effective for protecting yourself, because of the damage a steel blade can do to a person, the knife like a gun is a last resort option, Pepper spray and impact weapons are better for more kinds of situations that require defense. The blade on the first knife you posted makes it much less useful for utility because of it's unusual blade shape. The second knife's blade, a tanto, also makes it less than optimal for utility and a variety of cutting chores, neither of these knives are the way to go from my point of view, a simple spyderco endura or delica would be a huge step up from either of these choices, hope I could help and try to not be bothered by the dweebs on this site, though there does tend to be a lot of them.

From what I understand that hawkbill has the quality of the first generation MOD. That is.... SUPERB! But I don't have first hand experience.

What is that, a fossil?? ;) Where did you get that picture from?

I was looking to experiment with a hawkbill blade, and ran across the Byrd Crossbill. Bryd is a sister company of Spyderco. I picked a Crossbill up on ebay for $22 about a year ago. I must say I'm surprised at how versatile the blade shape is. You can even stab with it, you just have to hold your wrist at a different angle. I reprofiled the edge to a 20-degree angle and have been real impress at how will a $22 dollar knife has held up. We have been doing some remodeling at our church and for the last 3 week been using it as a utility knife to score sheetrock, cut soundboard, strip wires, and cut cardboard. The first 2" of the tip has seen a lot of abuse and is holding up well. I've done some real white knuckling with this knife too and the lock-up is still super tight. I haven’t ever used one of the MOD hawkbill knives, but I can't imagine how it's 15 times better than the Crossbill.
