I was toying around with the camera and came up with this setup. What do you think?

The knives are a set from Scott Gossman and the camp axe...well you can see that lol. I was thinking of trying this set up next time I go on a trip in the spring. Thank's for looking.

That looks like a great combination for the outdoors:thumbup:! I am sure we all would appreciate some more information on the knives.

Scott Gossman used to work under the name Razorback Knives. His stuff is awesome. Those look great.

That would be nice wouldn't it? Sorry. The set is from Scott Gossman. The large knife is a 7" Tusker. The smaller blade is around 2" or so. They are both in 01 tool steel. They ride in the same sheath like this...

Sorry the pic isn't better. I was in a hurry to get it posted. lol

Scott Gossman's knives are TERRIBLE!!
You should not use them.. As a matter of fact, you should dispose of them right away.. If you mail them to me, I can make SURE they are properly disposed of. :D :D

Seriously though, that's a great looking set you have there, I really like the combo of a larger knife for utility work, and a smaller knife for detail work.. Especially when you can have BOTH knives right there on the same sheath. Add a firestarter to that and you got everything you need!!

Different choices, but I break my edged tools down into classes like that, too. Ya need a nicer hawk or hatchet to match those Gossman's!

My only issue with the set, and I hesitate to say anything at all, is that you've got a few (4?) hundred dollars worth of knife there and 30 dollars worth of hatchet. Your hatchet is there to save your knife edge from awful tasks. I've never used a Friskars, and don't know about them. But I'd add a better axe. JMHO. YMMV. Not trying to critique a great setup!

I think that axe with suffice. No need to drop more money on toys when it can go towards gas for the trips out.

I have a similar axe (gerber), and it works fine as it is. A few swipe on the stone before you go, and you'll be ready to rock. I see the knife as more of a backup to the axe if the handle breaks or something.

I have an 8" Tusker as well as a PSK .(both by Scott)

His knives are EXCELLENT!!!!

I'm using one of Scott's knives to Kill a Boar this month in fact(PHOTOS WILL FOLLOW)-

Scott's customer service is also OUTSTANDING!!!!!

How do I know????

because I sent the 8" Tusker to Scott to have him modifiy the Handle(which he is doing now).

Cost$10.00 and some Boar jerky.

The difference is I did NOT--repeat "NOT" buy this knife from Scott.

I bought it used--from a forum member.

But Scott treats me like I'm his brother in law.......

THAT PEOPLE IS FANTASIC CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!

and his knives are EXCELLENT TOO!!!!!!

Bishop you have a GREAT SET UP

CHANGE NOTHING

That should keep you equipped very nicely.

Tell the bear it's a "Gossman" , he's liable to run the other way! :)

I'M GOING BOAR HUNTING WITH A KNIFE--

NOT BEAR HUNTING...

I'M BRAVE--NOT INSANE

:)

I was gonna say you should go with an in between knife and a pocket knife until I saw the sheath. That's a nice set up. You usually see that kind of set up with a big knife(7-8in) and a medium knife (4-5in). That small knife makes more sense.

Oh and the Gerber/Fiskars is plenty hatchet. I have one and can't see spending twice as much for a little more cutting efficiency. Plus it's nice having a chopper that's semi-disposable.

Let us know how it works.

That is a nice combination sheath! I have heard nothing but good words about Scott Gossman's knives and I hope that I contact him soon to place an order.

Regarding the axe issue, that was raised here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4336941&postcount=9
I would say that of course a Gransfors Bruks is a much better hatchet (I know since I have three different models by GB, albeit I only use one) than the FISKARS. I should say though that I believe you can still do a decent job with the FISKARS that you have. In particular, I believe that the handle of the FISKARS is one of the most durable I have ever seen.

I hereby eat my words about the hatchet. I know standards around here are high, that many positive responses on it being a good piece of gear, is good enough for me. Heck, I'm no snob, mine is a CS Rifleman's Hawk, I think I paid $28 for it :) Plus a fair amount of elbow grease...

Thats the hawk I am thinking of getting. The fiskers I think will be fine till I decide to pick up a real hawk. lol The simple truth is I have used axes and hatchets at work but never in the wild. I always had a big knife instead. I just figured I would change it up a bit and see if I like it.

Also, I agree 100% about Scott's knives they are awsome. Add to that the fact that if you ever need anything done to them he is right on it...good guy:thumbup: great tools:thumbup: Ok I'll get my lips off his ass now...:D
