What do you think of tilting/horizontal grinders?

Thanks all for all your replies! Gonna hold out until I can pickup one that tilts. I eventually want to build folders and love designs with finger choils and could foresee a lot of good use out of a horizontal grinder.

For $600 you can start with a basic Reeder frame and add the motor/VFD yourself. That will get you going pretty fast.

You can add your own wheels, but I recommend ordering his for the extra $200 (his are very good quality and perfectly balanced)

I like this fellow for the motor/VFD setup. Currently he only has the 3/4 and 1HP motors in stock, but send him a message, as he re-stocks regularly.:

Unless you are good at wiring and have the wires, plugs, and switches, it is best to get the whole deal as plug-and-play.

I have the original workrest that has the 3 bolts to adjust its tilt, height, and distance from the platen. The tilt mechanism is basically 2 heavy hinges and a steel rod that keeps the whole thing horizontal. It was an option from Brett when I ordered mine. It works great horizontally. I use it mostly for the spines of kitchen knives while profiling and shaping scales.
