What do you use for a Quench Tank?

If you have a piece of pipe laying around (who doesn't have a junk pile?) weld a piece of steel on the bottom. Works for me.

hey matt, I use a coffee can too!! :D :D it was pretty funny I had a hot blade in the fire and i was running aroud the house to find something to quench in and i saw a coffee can in the sink so i took it and filled it up. :D
its just been there ever sense

I took a picture of mine after I made a new shelf for it. I lowered the shelf a little so it would not have to be quite so full which makes it leak out where the wires come in for the pump. I of corse made it too narrow for the shelf supports so I had to get creative and that's why the left looks like it does. The good news is that the modification also makes that side adjustable for depth:D

I went down to the local fire extinguisher store (Clarey's Safety) and they had hundreds of old, steel and aluminum metal tanks from defective fire extinguishers laying around waiting to be recycled. I asked if I could buy one and they GAVE me two! Just took it over to my bandsaw (they were all discharged) and cut the top off. I now have a very durable quench tank that will hold about two gallons. I had to clean out some residue powder from the tank, first, but a garden hose did that nicely. Great for quenching long blades point down (fillets) .
