Hey guys, just kinda wondering how you store your knives. I bought a cheap tool box to store mine for now. Just wondering how you store yours. Box? If is what kind?

Thanks,

I use either the original boxes or for my rotation a Maxpedition Dodecapod

I use a 5 Drawer Sterilite container. I put 2 silica gel packs in each drawer, felt line the bottom and usually store my knives in the original boxes. For my rotation I store them in the top drawer inside a leather and wood dish with a silica gel pack under them.

Harbor freight wooden box and my safe for higher end ones.

I use a RubberMaid tub & just throw em in there. Knives are in the sheaths of course. Mine are all users.

Just a clear plastic bin with a lid. It's a little bigger than a shoebox. I just toss the knives in there, along with several small desiccant packs. While it's not particularly humid where I live, the desiccant does seem to keep the the funky tool box smell from forming.

I store them in my tool roll around. Tools are after all just tools.

I went to one of the big box hardware stores and purchased several plastic "shoe" containers - blue lids with clear container. They are stackable, and I can separate the different knives (multi tools in one, sak's in one, etc.)

I keep miscellaneous knife crap in one of them - take down tools, paracord, loctite.

For valuable/collectable knives, Bill's Custom Cases are generally considered best.

Do not use any sort of sealed container (Tupperware, Pelican Cases, etc.) for long-term storage of knives.

Silica Gel is a potential problem; it doesn't make moisture go away, it just holds it much as a sponge holds water. But, if you squeeze a sponge, it will release that water. Under certain conditions, silica gels will release their moisture too. In a sealed container, that can be disasterous.

Avoid foam materials. They trap moisture.

Be careful of cloths and felt. If the dye is not stable, it can, over a long time, stain some knife materials such as bone or ivory.

I will have to politely disagree with you on the moisture in sealed containers. As long as you don't purposefully trap moisture in the container there won't be enough to cause damage. I have stored high end DSLR cameras and other moisture sensitive electronics in pelican cases for years at the time with no damage, and I live in a VERY humid environment. I have left carbon steel blades locked in one for over a month with not even a spot.

I think that whole moisture vs sealed container deal is a myth.
