I'm surprised only one other person uses Atom Wax . Fiebings Dyes and the Balm w/Atom Wax for me too. After dyeing I do the rub down . So that I don't contaminate the whole bottle of Atom Wax with the dye color I happen to be using at the time I pour a little wax into a small plastic cup and dip my wool dauber into that. I left a little in the cup the other day and the "carrier" evaporated and what was left was a wad of very hard wax. I like this stuff a lot. You really have to put alot of elbow grease into the final rub with this stuff (I'm sure Chuck B. will agree with me on this). The finish that is left is very tough and very water repellant not waterproof but darn close.I have found the atom wax finish is long term too , not something that needs to be re-applied every month or so if in the field regularly. Thats MHO :). CL Wilkins , I had the same thing happen to me (2) 4th of July's ago. I was showing a Blade & Sheath off at the fireworks (a heavely tooled sheath I might add) that was to be delivered the next day:rolleyes: . The fella that was looking at it put the Blade in backwards and the tip sliced about a 3" gash right thru the front-TOAST !It is crazy how fast things can go to H*LL . That was 7-8 oz. leather , from that day forward I used and still use 8-9 oz. for all of my leather sheaths. I'm not sure if it would have made a difference in that example but the heavier leather just seems tougher, again IMHO. It sure did SUCK though,he was very, very lucky he didn't slice his fingers BAD. Very lucky! Thats my take on the finishing of leather sheaths & as always IMHO :) BTW Good Morning George : )
