Thinking about snatching up a BOSS Jack, so I’m interested in seeing what you guys do with yours.

Sold unfortunately.. regretted it ever since. Great knife !! Especially the thinner convex grind slicers.

It is a great knife! Similar to SHSJ, just slightly different...I had a .22 custom job that was a beauty and a beast (I thought it was the MOABJ) - sold it as I cannot thin out convex edges. It was sharp enough at the edge to slice paper, yet not a slicer at all if that makes any sense. It felt like the strongest knife in the world with a true full convex grind and it's smaller blade depth - it was like a big elongated satin INFI seed-pod/spaceship in between red and black G10. It was literally a tank of a knife that was beautiful and comfortable to hold. I cannot get over how strong that knife felt... can still actually feel its heft in hand. If I could have made it into a user, I would have...I sold it to somebody who could.

More recently, I found a decent deal (I think) on a .18-ish LE, black canvas with saber grind and convex edge. I love it. I have not used it outside yet, and as stated, great all-arounder and very nice and lean profile for packing/carrying. If you are good at edge work or know someone who is, you can take this knife in a lot of different directions...

This is a knife where there are TONS of variations from the shop that will all have implications for whatever your particular taste is...

They even have ones with fullers (.22 all I believe)...

ALSO - very rare are the .15-.16'ers...those are rare and expensive and obviously a way different knife than any of the others you will find...

And, mostly I just cut things with my knives, too...

Just in general handling, my BG Boss Jack has become my favorite "bushcrafty" type blade but I haven't taken mine camping yet to prove it. Love the small choil, full flat grind, balance and a point that looks like it would be great for drilling. It reminds me of a classic Kephart type of blade with a bit more blade length that should come in handy for batoning. The SOB was my favorite but I do believe the BG BJ is going to nudge it over to second place........but then again.........the Hog Badger is coming.

Thanks to COPIOUS I own the Boss Jack LE #601, has a sabre grind and a convex edge which I refined a bit.
Great allrounder. Might not be the best solution for those very delicate tasks but If I had to choose one knife, this might be it. I once batoned through a 5 inch log with it!

That custom shop model looks great. A choilless boss jack is on my bucket list, but the closest thing I've got is a SR Jackmandu. I just picked it up, not sure how it would compare to a boss jack, but the 6-inchers do make nice all-around blades.

I used my Boss Jack Proto to carve myself a real nice ash long bow. One of the best self bows I have made. Definitely the process is a good test of multiple knife hacking techniques. G10 scales convex grind. Stayed comfortable in hand even after a few hours of repetitive chopping motion. The Boss Jack did everything from the choppin to the notchin. And of course so nice to take the edge right back to dangerously sharp again with a quick bit of stropping once I had finished!

Just got back from a little weekend away. Should have also gotten picks of the batoning and fire making. It's definitely a big little knife.

I use mine to protect me and my family from alien abduction. You can never be too careful. Anal probes and such.

Rob....Satin with Black Paper??? Ok you can have your pudding after you finish your meat!!!

Wish Jerry would bring back Black Paper Micarta!!!

DSCN1558.JPG Boss Jack - Fruit.JPG Boss Jack - wood chunks.JPG My .22 Boss Jack is used more than any of my other Busses. Chops up fruit, wood chunks for barbecue, carves meat, and is on my belt for most woodland excursions. I love my ASH-1 but when a lighter weight is called for, the Boss Jack can handle it.

I picked up my CG Boss Jack back when it was on the site and I was super excited having seen all the pics of the original Satin Jack. For a while it just wasn't performing for me, I thought it was too thick behind the edge, but after starting to use it in earnest, it really is everything I wanted it to be. It seams to have gotten sharper and the coating has smoothed somehow making it a better slicer and batoner. Just a fantastic knife.

I've said it before, but I think these blades really need to be broken in like a good cast iron pan. The more I use them the more I understand why Jerry makes one a certain way. It's a true art.

It's also a true art to get me to shut up and just use something and trust that it's even better than I think it is without trying to make it what I think it should be. :)
