Ok, quick question, what do you use your knife for? Need to prove that an EDC is useful. (What do you guys cut often?)

My EDC is used just about everyday in the kitchen or at work cutting food. I also use it to open mail and packages. When I was a custodian, I would use my knife to scrape gum and other gunk off the floors. (washing it afterwards of course;))

My EDC's are as follows:

Work it's a SOG Mini Outdoor AutoClip
Home SOG Racing Red (Limited run) X-42 AutoClip and sometimes the Mini

I also carry a Leatherman Mini tool with my. Before moving to the City and starting College, I grew up on a Ranch and then a farm. Knives were used everyday for opening bails of hay, cutting things off of animals (you might be supprised at what a goat or sheep can get find to get caught on) and a whole mess of other things. I'm never with out a knife unless I'm sleeping. It would be strange to not carry some sort of blade.

Whatever has to be cut. Opening cartons, cutting string, rope, leather, ribbon, material. Slicing tomato and salami and opening packets in the kitchen. Make a note of what you cut or could've cut during the course of a week and you will be amazed.

I am a computer tech supervisor, so I mainly open boxes, pkgs, and cut small stuff. Mostly I like to impress my co workers with the measure of "scary sharpness" of my Benchmade D2 Ares.

Today I was slicing paper like Wade was doing in his BM 710 vid clip. I got many "Holy $hit!" type responses.

I work in a meat market and regularly cut steaks, ect. I also open several boxes and packages of meat. Of course, I clean my blade before and after I cut any meat. I also use it to cut my own food at work.

I now have a desk job that doesn't offer much in the way of knife usage as I have a secretary that opens all my mail. I occassionally get to open the odd box and today got to open two blister packs of ink for my printer. Use my EDC for cutting fruit at lunch and assorted kitchen duties when at home.

Some people may go days without needing a knife but it is sure good to have the right tool when you need it. Other lucky souls have jobs that require opening boxes and breaking them down so they get to use their knives all day, every day.

Today I´ve only cut tape, which I do often, so many things come in blister packs these days, how do people open them ?, I find a knife is best for that.

Open cartons, cut string, open cans, clean fingernails, cut fruit, slice bread, help my daughters and nephews with school projects, hobbies like whittling, etc.

Most people use diferent tools for diferent things, a cheff knife in the kitchen, a box cutter in the shop, a scissors at the office, etc. when much, if not all, can be done with a single tool, your EDC knife.

I work in retail, so I often use mine for opening boxes and mail. I also use it for clipping articles out of newspaper/magazines (x-acto knife style.) And for cleaning my nails. Hmmm... what else? Sometimes I just like to play with it. :D

I use my knives to cut anything that my teeth and fingernails aren't sharp-enough to cut.:D.

I usually carry a BM710HSSR, and a SS PE Spyderco Cricket. I use them for cutting whatever needs cutting except food.

I'm glad you asked !
Another SwampRat user was out 4 wheeling & he & his friend needed to do some cutting with his Camp Tramp.
He was having trouble posting at this link, so Nic Ramirez posted for him. The picture shows the blade after use.

This is why I carry the best knives I can find. You never know when your life may depend on 'em.
My EDC is a rotation of quality folders , in the city.
In the country, SwampRats !

What do I cut with 'em?

ANYTHING !

Well today I opened some "snack food"bags for the kids, scraped ice off the bottem of my X-country skis and butterflied some thick steaks on the grill.

But I also carry for things I hope to never have to cut.Like seatbelts,or clothing caught in machines,a rope caught in the prop.of my boat.

Once while canoeing some whitewater,we got dumped, yet my canoe stayed out in the middle of the river, half full of water bucking wildly. The stern line got caught up in rocks on the bottem. After many attemps I made it out to the canoe and without my Delica it may very well still be there.

my most used knife is an all stainless spyderco delica - boxes, plastic, paper, food, carpet, most household stuff. i don't get out in the wilderness much.

my most carried knife lately is a duncan aftershock - this one's almost exclusively for obnoxiously gratuitous showing off :D

Same as most everybody else - opening boxes, cutting string, scrapping stuff off places it shouldn't be, etc. I don't hunt so I don't have any use for a skinning knife. My favorites for utility are my Spydercos - Delica, Endura, and Temperance. The pointy blade shape works well for alot of utility purposes.

Spyderco Rescue Plain-Edge at work.

open boxes
open mail
strip wire (electrician)
cut food
cut rope, string
clean burrs from ends of plastic conduit
open doors (you know, work the latch back with knife point)
slice paper(like Phalanx, above),just to freak out coworkers.

How about sharpening pencils? A truly sharp knife turns this into a satisfying little task.

I sharpen pencils all the time with my Cold steel Scimitar. It also looks really scary to some people (cant imagine why)

Open mail and boxes
Cut string/rope
Open plastic bags that parts come in
Cut out articles in magazines
Cutting meat when I don't have a quality kitchen knife available
Removing splinters (need a fine tip)
General emergency tool

Opening mail/packages
Cutting strings/straps/rope
Food prep
Clipping articles/coupons
Whittling
Pencil sharpening
Scraping/peeling labels/stickers
Dressing/skinning fish/game

Too many uses to list all of them. :)
