hey guys yea i am just wondering when do you mostly use your knives? on the job or in your spare time(hiking, camping, yard work etc...) and what materials do you use your knife for mostly(eg: cardboard etc.) and if you want, you can post a picture of the knife you have used/abused the most:D

I carry a small Buck trapper with me sometimes when I am working to cut boxes, cut open bags, clean my fingernails etc...dont end up using it much, and only put it in my pocket like 1 or 2 days a wekk.

Anytime I am hunting, fishing, hiking or in the bush, I bring my Bark River woodland and machete, I use them to process pigs and goats from the initial cut to the freezer, cut bait, gut fish, slice food, cut rope, sharpen stakes, clear trails, cut firewood and a bunch of other stuff.

i use it as often as i can, on anything i can. i carry it everyday.

the one thing that is really nice about chris reeve knives, is that you can send them to him for a little 'spa' treatment and they come back looking brand new. re-bead blasted, blade tumbled or polished, sharpened, etc..

My knives get most of their use when I'm hunting or just working at the ranch, fishing, or when I'm backpacking. Sadly I don't get to backpack nearly as much as I would like. :(

cuttin stuff............

mostly mail and packages. or paper/cardboard just for fun.

My knives go through the regular tasks that accompany being an EDC: Cutting up fruit, slicing bagels, opening letters, cutting string and occasionally rope, and cutting up boxes when I need to.

I work a mid size company in the receiving department. Every thing that come into the company (except US Postal) I open. From small packages to pallets. All packages (UPS, FedEx, etc. must be opened in the Recieving area). No box cutters here. After a girl in our shipping dept. cut herself really bad and the events of 9-11-01 box cutters are a no no. I use a Salt 1 SE. The H1 steel seem to hold an edge really well. The company even bought me a Spyderco Sharpmaker. Lately I've been using my new Kershaw OD-1. It came out of box very sharp. Ten work days and it is still very sharp.

Ive cut seatbelts, pryed windows open, and once, I even used my Emerson to cut open the fuselage of a Cessna after it crashed, to get to the occupants.

Just cuttin' what needs cuttin'.

i use my Yeller Case CV med. Stockman every single day:)
For instance it can be seen in action doing the following...
1) Slicing up Fruits and Veggies at work... Lotsa kitchen time too
2) Making big pieces of wood into smaller pieces of wood:D
3) Just Yesterday i used the sheep foot blade to cut some pieces of paper for a quickie comp at work (i'm an artist/designer)
4) Today i freed a jammed up adhesive label from our New Canon digital press

I believe this Yeller stockman is single handedly keeping me alive:D
I love my Yeller handled knives...

I carry a knife as a tool. In the past I worked as an electrician, a truck driver, an engineer/chemist in a development lab, a formulation chemist, manager of a small factory, and in general construction. (not necessarily in that order.) In those jobs, I used a knife in my work. These days I am an engineer who is mostly relegated to a cube farm, so I don't use my knife much at work. Just opening goody bags and peeling apples.

But at home I am still an urban homeowner, with all the fixits that urban homeowners perform.
I trim plastic parts so they fit.
I cut water hose.
I smooth the edges of PVC pipe after sawing it.
I cut up cardboard for the recycle bin.
I trim plants.
I clean out sprinkler heads
I cut twine and rope.

what year was that, just out of curiosity? I am named after a family friend who was in a terrible accident in a Cessna 182 in the early 90's...cost him an eye and a large piece of his skull. The co-pilot died instantly but he was saved by someone...the details of the rescue i don't recall.

2007, little bit late for that. The pilot was killed instantly, and the passenger survived long enough to extricate him, and get him on a chopper to the trauma center, where he passed away.

This incident was when I decided carrying a quality knife was not an option.

I've been using this as my pocket knife lately. ZT MUDD 500.

I use it mostly for cutting rope, but have also used it to pry flashing off of wood, split kindling to start fires, jam cable through gaps between boards, cut open and cut up boxes and other packaging.

Kershaw RAM or Skyline lately. Cutting boxes at home and work, cutting small gauge wire on occasion, making toothpicks out of twigs and such, slicing paper, and maintaining that bald arm look.
