What do you wish people did in reviews?

Hello BF,

I know a lot of us watch review videos, or read reviews. I'm wondering is there something that you guys wished did more when reviewing knives/gear or what is your favourite part/thing your favourite reviewers do?

EDIT: I see a lot of comments about reviewers actually using the knife. What type of "usage" would you like to see the knife in? Also, I'm sure the tasks you would want to see depend on the type of knife/what the knife intended use is.

I wish they'd actually use the damn knife.

So many reviews about action, fit and finish, and how pretty (or rugged) it looks, but they never show any actual use of the knife!

excatly! I skip ahead sometimes, and if all I see is a dining room table, the vid is finished!

A lot of people watch videos of a knife they wish to buy or are waiting for, so a good idea would be to show a close up of the hand on the knife and full blade in the frame so we can judge the size to hand. Also, while getting the best grip up close, cut thru things so the viewer gets to see what the knife looks like while gripping and cutting, not batoning. That way you can decide if blade or handle is too big or small for your application. Also the size of the utubers hand in relation to yours. Not an idiot with low audio unwrapping and giving feeble advice on a knife he will never take outside and use.

Great comments so far. I'm wondering what type of "use" do you wish to see the knife in? I'm sure it depends on the type of knife and what it is meant for.

really you have to look at it in a way that the knife is your highly paid "model" and dont forget people mostly came to oogle the knife and dont care as much for scenery or even opinions of reviewer, but thats where the reviewer needs to hold the attention of the audience. I actually work in broadcast television and went to school for it, I guess I should stop being lazy and get out and review too!! But really, again close ups of the knife in hand from the side, cutting say strapping or paracord, I hate seeing cardboard cut also, big deal. Pics from above to show the spine and liner as you bear down, pics from other side of knife while slicing thru steak....just because. In most cases its not about what the knife"can handle" in most cases, its the beauty of the knife and how it looks performing. CLOSE UP, not 8 feet away.

I don't think a 5" fixed blade was meant to beat on with a limb. I've watched reviewers treat a knife like an axe which it was not meant to do. I get tired of "feathering" and "batoning" ad nauseam. When they start that stuff with a somewhat fragile knife I click out

Okay, I see what you don't want... what DO you want to see?

Bleeding, gutting, skinning & boning the same animal with the same knife. Even roadkill deer for free dogfood.

I'll take a one year's use review over an unboxing any day.

Ahh interesting. Do you want more of a "talking" video or show the knife being used while talking after 1 year? I presume you would be interested in knowing how the knife held up etc.

I have seen some reviews on why the person did not keep the knife and had a picture of the knife instead of the real thing. Funny and very enlightening about the knife and it's drawbacks.

Give me a review after the honeymoon stage of ownership.

I also enjoy the reviews done buy Benchmade.

Have ALL of the specs ready to go, and invest in some better lighting equipment. It's not that expensive and comes in very handy!

I like to know where the point of balance is.

Exact published specs of the knife, steel, weight, yadda, I can google, but point of balance is the big unknown.

Not many people do this. I wish they did, then I'd know if I were interested in the knife to begin with.
