What does a good fire steel cost?

Mine are the fatter "Amy" model made by Light-My-Fire, a Swedish company.

Just did a Google search, and found that Light-My-Fire now has a U.S. division. Here's the list of sellers at their website.

http://lightmyfireusa.com/wheretobuy.html

I also see that Amazon sells them.

REI also sells the Scout model of the above Swedish Firesteel for $11.00.
They have it in red, green and grey colors.
It is smaller than the Army model but slightly larger than their model they produce for Kershaw, and much larger than the BSA Hotspark.

Hey Kevin....

Yes it's a Leatherman Micra....

As for the sheath being short...

The Micra is held firmly in place.. It Can't be pulled straight out of the rig. The only way it comes out is to snap it out at the seam. Much like breaking a pencil between your fingers..

By looking at it,, you would think it pulls out the bottom,,but it doesn't...

Eric That small sheath holding what looks like a muti-tool seems mighty short . It does look form fitting . Does it hold so securely that it may be hung from the neck upside down ?

You better believe it holds it secure. I have one of Erics Keytag sheaths for my leatherman Squirt. It holds it so tight, and will not come out until you want it to.

I have never thought of wearing it around the neck. Great idea:thumbup:

Hey Doc...

Here ya go.,.
Found a couple...

What is a longer fire steel that is not too expensive . My buddy is sending me a knife sheath with a loop for a firesteel . Are there any firesteels without those little thumb grips . I would rather just have a straight rod and make a little leather cap to grip it with .

I have seen a few vendors selling plain rods with no grips. I don't recall right now who does, but I have found them when doing a dogpile or google search for fire steel. I know someone did a review of ferro rods on outdoors-magazine.com that included a plain rod.

Thanks Lambertiana . Though I usuall y try to stay away from dog piles . You never know what you might pick up . L:O:L

I,ll check out that magazine ,
