What does a guy have to do to keep up with the rest?

This is not a question about who owns the most khukris or have the best collection.

I am one of those Johnnys-come-lately who scan the khukri forum now and then and at odd hours. Considering the different time zones affecting various parts of the globe (and I come from the far end), I always spot Uncle Bill's khukri offer about 24 hours or even 30 mins too late.

I am not saying I WILL buy a khukri on offer but whenever I read about such an offer that is too good to miss, I invariably see that line: "Gone!" or "It has found a good home."

What has a khukri fan got to do not to miss out on the action when it is going on?

I don't know if there is an answer to your question:( I'm retired, and spend much of my time on the forum, and still miss deals - some of these guys are QUICK! Then, there are those that I know I could get, but shouldn't because the wife would put me out. I wouldn't mind sleeping under a tree, but having to eat my own cooking would be cruel punishment.:barf:

Basically, you have to forego having a "rest of your" life, and stay continually on this forum. Practice using your mouse, let your family fend for itself, and the magic of "HIKV" will gradually take over everything to the point where those UBDOTDs will just flow into your life.

Hi Golok,

Someone once compared the special postings here to feeding time in a pool of very polite sharks. A little swirl in the water and BANG! Gone. I was lucky enough to snag a few last fall through patience. Since then a combination of willpower, shortage of funds and poor timing have kept me from the feeding frenzy - hang in there and you will find something. If you can't wait, contact Uncle Bill and let him know what you're looking for - I'm sure he'd keep an eye out for you. I can feel my HIKV acting up just thinking about it, and I'm already expecting one in the mail.

Peace,
Snuffy

When Uncle Bill started posting UBDOTDs around 6:00 pm EDT, whellll, it was almost like I was drawn to the computer. By the time I had gotten on bladeforums the 17" AK was posted, I read that one, the 21" GRS was posted by the time I was done, then when I was finished with that the 18" AK was posted. If I had any money, one would have been mine. :(

Am I to assume that Jim is inviting comparison of himself to normality? ;) :D

LMRRAO!!!:D

Golok,

Just email Uncle Bill what khukuri style you are interested in and you might be able to get a good deal.

The other thing, don't worry if you miss an opportunity for a nice khukuri, there will always be opportunities for others. Look forward, don't look back.

Koz,
"YES" I AM A NORMAL PERSON WHO researches k'S! WELL, THAT'S one down two to go! I know I'm not going to get a fair evaluation,or break from that "civil servant" Blues(who is now desk bound, until he retires, cause he can't mix it up any more, just too old & slow),or that NDN( who has nothing better to do than dream of tormenting me in some manner)! Guys, I just may be the"ONLY" normal person (besides Bill, & sometimes I wonder about him)around here!Other normal people would be Sandi, Terry & Barb! Sorry bella, you're with THEM!

GOLOK,

Buy MPM's 18" Chiruwa AK that he just put up for sale for $125. Its made by Sanu!

Rob

Not a bad idea, Rob.

And email does help. Sometimes a newphew will email and ask what I'm putting up for the day and takes it away before it ever hits the forum.

Or wait for times like the last few days when all the sharks are resting on the ocean flood with bellyaches from overindulging on UBDOTD's. The last couple days UBDOTD's lasted hours on hours, causing severe emotional stress to those of us who'd foolishly paid our bills first.

but you see, we'll be the one's sitting pretty at the beginning of next month, when we can still drive to work, and come home to a house which is lit with electricity, call friends on the phone, and then eat dinner. :D

The best way to get Uncle's specials is lack of hesitation. When you see it, and you have the money (an optional second step for some of us), and you think you want it get it then....no hesitation. Actually I think that lack of hesitation is the problem with this forum (if you want to call it a problem). I and many others are continually broke...or saving up so that we can once again become broke.

Dont second guess yourself  do what feels natural. As they say "Use the Force", after all you will be buying one of the greatest and most powerful blades ever designed.

Actually, while the UBDOTD is a great way to acquire unique and interesting Khukuris, interaction with forumites is a great way to just increase your collection. It was through this method, watching the exchange (then known as Knives for Sale Individual), and posting a wanted ad on the Wanted to Buy, that I managed to acquire 15 Khukuris (most of them HI) in a 6 week period. And that didn't include the Everest Katana or the Tarwar.

There are many ways to feed the HIKV need:cool: :D

Good tips and advice, all. Doubt if I get up any deals today -- Photopoint decided I need another project.

OK, MauiRob, thanks for the advice. Now how about those khukris by Durba?

I shall have to stay awake in future with wallet ready! :D

I have long ago lost any delusions of normalitity and seem to find it hard to believe you still have yours. Everyone is coaxed into believing that normality is not only existant but something that you should try to obtain. In a world were anyone can be greater that average or normal if they refuse to be gormless and bother excersise their creative abilities.

Jim you are to excintric itelligent and creative to be normal. You are one of those people that stands out in a crowd(even an online crowd of...well for lack of a better word, weirdoes...I of course mean that in a good way) simply because of you interesting manner. You should consider this a compliment.

The fallowing is a poem that was written for a nike ad campiage. I think in most aspects it applies well to the people who congragate at this forum.

Think Different

To the crazy ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The trouble makers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They're not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can praise them.
Dissagree with them,
Quote them.
Disbelieve them.
Glorify or villify them.
About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.

Because they change things.
They invent.
They imagine.
They Heal.
They Explore.
They create.
They inspire.

They push the human race forward.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and se a work of art?
Or sit in silence and hear a song thats never been written?
Or gaze at a red planet and see a labratory on wheels?

While some see them as the crazy ones we see genius.

And it's the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world who actually do.

:) I know not every one is out to change the world but if you are a strange excentric person you shouldn't look at it as a bad thing because in truth it is all of the people who do not depend on the delusion of normality that make the world as great as it is (even if it doesn't seem that great all of the time)

Nice Post Bella!

And I agree. Of course I am also quite wierd myself, so maybe I can't help but agree:D

Its true though. Those people who sit around and worry about what is "normal", and if every action they may take is normal, don't often dare to change anything, to experiment and challenge the status quo. In my opinion, "normal" is often just a pleasing euphemism for "BORING". My $.02.

I am an "outdoor photographer". I use that term because I don't limit my pictures to just wildlife, or landscapes. But rather anything outside that interests me. which, 9 times out of 10 is wildlife or nature in some form. However, quite frequently I focus on a small piece of nature and photograph it how I want. The first thing some people ask is "what is it?" , which is a normal reaction. But, it is the boring "normal" person that will turn their nose up at any picture that isn't "normal" whatever the heck that is, instead of just trying to see the beauty in the image--its colors, shapes, textures etc... Whoops! went on a rant by accident:o

anyway, you get the idea:)

I am rather glad you went on a rant though because your work sounds really interesting I tent to focas on color texture and shape in my work which is always a fun challenge exspecially since I rarely do any thing smaller than nine feet cubed.

I'd love to see soem of your work

bella
