I just ordered two 110's from the Buck Internet Specials page that are listed as Special Build Outs. They have ironwood inlays, no rivets and have a blade with the anvil stamp and deerhead cutout.

I had thought that a build out was like when they put a 110 blade in a 560 or vice versa. These are more like a custom it seems to me.

the deer head cut out was frist done in late 90's
the custom cutout was a blade from 2002 i belive
i have a 2002 custom cut out ..
if buck found the blades in a forgoten box many times
they will put the blades on a frame and sell them
as there is not a normal codeing for this they are called build outs
these really are semi-custom knives as most times there are less then 200 made.
good ones to have in a collection
i have several made this way..
btw it is Shara (cj's daughter) who chooses what goes on close out page!
also it was her that had the custom shop 112's made!
pete has her ear so tell him what ya want to see!

Think ya got the answer from Decaf Dave...the "Rain Man" of Buck :), but I wanted to thank you for posting. I had never looked there before. Some cool stuff

:)No problem, I had never noticed that either until someone else mentioned it in another thread. I'm still trying to make up my mind it I want one of the 110's with the BG-42 blades. It's very tempting.

Usually a build out is when Buck wants to use up inventory of some material (frame, inlays, blades, etc.). They will then put together some non-traditional combination of components as a build out.

There will be as few as 10 or 12.......Buildouts are rare in some models. I've never seen a 112. They ALWAYS sell for more on the bay than the purchess price. For re-sellers they are a dream!
