My Police collection? It's over halfway through a second Spyderpak now. Up to about 50 not counting a few duplicates.Of course it was a police!
Can only imagine what your police collection looks like these days.
Sal, do you ever carry/will you ever again mention the Reverse-S PM2 Prototype???Eric and I have to carry and use upcoming models at all stages from prototype to first production article, so daily rotation is normal. If there is a mod needed, it will usually be more obvious when carried and used. As Jack mentioned, I almost always carry a small knife like a Manbug Leaf for discreet use. My general preference is for a blade about 4.0" and the Stretch 2 XL does get a fair amount of carry time. Local and foreign laws play a part in carry also depending on where I am. When I'm in Kauai, I almost always carry Salts.

If you ever need any help with that just send me a couple and I will get back to you with how they hold up.Eric and I have to carry and use upcoming models at all stages from prototype to first production article, so daily rotation is normal. I'm testing and carrying 3 designs for Maniago, two for Seki and one from Switzerland. Those are my projects, so I get first crack.
That's interesting.
I recently purchased this 3 knife set of Kershaw folders (Models 1305, 1310 & 1320) w/backlocks that were supposedly designed by Maniago for Kershaw.

Not sure exactly when they were made but my guess (which based on the model numbers was in the early 80's.
Since you're working w/Maniago currently, doo you happen to know anything about these knives, Sal?
-----------------------------------------------------
The early Hattori designed folders made by Kershaw, like the Models 1040, 1050 & 1070 folders, made in the early 80's all had back locks on them too. I've owned a 1050 for a long time but I've never used it and can't speak to its strength or durability.

Kershaw also made other backlock folders --like the Gentleman's Folder (1993-2), Wildcat Ridge (3140) and Big Joe (4200) -- that I think were made between the 80's-90's that I also own but haven't used either.
-----------------------------------------------------
However, unlike Spyderco, Kershaw's backlocks were placed the the butt end of the knife, not in the middle. I'm guessing that the mid-lock knives are stronger than knife end lock-backs.
Is that why you went with mid lock-backs for your knives, Sal?
Ref: Does Anyone Do A Lockback Better?
Hope I’m not hijacking, but those Kershaws look similar to my Puma 715 4 Stars. Can’t remember if it’s late 70‘s or early 80’s production.Hi Sgt,
I'm not familiar with the first three designs. I am familiar with the Hattori piece. Hattori is a very skilled maker. One of 3 brothers all making knives in Seki. I understand his daughter, who is also very skilled, is running the shop now, but that's from the "rumor mill".
We went with a mid lock-back due to one of my mentor's, Al Mar. There were some advantages to the mid lock-back over the rear lock-back. 1) easier to close one handed and 2) the kick rests on the lock pivot so the blade does not hit the spring. I don't know that they're stronger because of the design. strength is based on other factors. They are harder to make and require closer tolerances.
Hey Anthony,
What better way to know what our customers want than to speak with them?
We probably won't tool up a new handle for the Stretch 2 XL for a Compression Lock. I think the design works best with a mid Lock-back.
