Can anyone post a photo of a Buck 112 Third Version (1 variation)? I would like to see the difference between Segua Wood and Macasar Ebony.

Thanks!

TAH,I cannot post pictures but the Shedua (segua a spelling I've not found in dictionaries) wood looks very similar to oak. A grainy, hard, rust to blonde wood. Hope you found one for those are hard to find. Only made one year, 1972. You can tell the difference easily. DM

Here you go.

Go up to the pic thread and go to post #569.

Scott has some great pics that hilight the Segua

Then download Joe Houser's pdf on the 110's 112's and he talks about Segua some.

Then there is a tidbit in the bible (Blades guide to knives and Values) about a third version 112 (1973) being the same as a 2nd version except that the inlays are Segua. Described there as heavy grained rust brown in color.

I'd bought a 112 on the that auction site and it was advertised as segua wood. The knife was in rough shape and the blade looked like it was ground down with a grinder. I left it in Post Falls and it came back with a new blade and the wood was nicely refurbished. It had a similar rough texture but was very darkly stained. It is a very nice knife and Buck did just a wonderful job with it. They grow on you.

Was Buck able to put a three liner blade read tip up, back in your 112?

Naturally pics are required :D:D

I don't know what a three liner blade read tip is. I did get a new blade and paid for that.

I don't do photo bucket and my camera doesn't do close ups very good.

One liners, two liners, three liners is how Buck evolved to stamping the blade tangs. In the beginnings, just said Buck, and read with the tip pointing down. Then there were two liners Buck USA read with tip down and maybe some tip up. Then the three liners Buck, xxx (model), USA read with tip pointing up. Allow some variation in this short version.

Flats,,,, That micarta looks really strange? Any close ups of it by it's self?

Like Pack Rat said, there's some pics in the Picture Thread, but here they are again, coloration differs slightly, but unique grain is characteristic in all:

Thank you guys for posting the pictures. As in mine all has the open grain but the color looks the most like EEE's 112.DM

I think you seeing the waves in the micarta. This knife has a oh so slight palm swell. Its as little more pronouces on the right side. The second knife is flat finish which seems to be most common. I think the first one looks great and it is smooth to touch despite the wavey look.

That one with the knives up on edge really shows the grain, and after your pics Scott, Has been my giuedline. Thanks.

Thanks Flatlander, that first pic looked like micarta stag....:D:D

There were two types of micarta used on Buck knives. Both were black, one had a very tight grain and will look glassy when polished. The other was more open like Flat's and gives a dull look when polished. Thank you for posting the pictures.DM

Thanks PR. I've got no clue. I wasn't/am not into 112's and was just happy to get the new blade and bolsters brought back to life.

I know a little more now and the abused two dot 110 I just left at Post Falls is getting cleaned up and no blade replacement.

Would have been really cool to have before and after pics. I'm a good one to talk tho. Will start cleaning up a knife and then, wish I had taken those kind of pics. I am glad your two dot blade will remain intact.
