What does stock removal mean?

I don't intend to come off too rude, but I think you should do a bit of searching on the internet. Many of the questions you're asking today have been answered too many times to count and can easily be found by searching. The first three links on google for "stock removal knife making" all answer this question.

You may also search blade forum by typing site:bladeforums.com and then your search string into google.

its when the market starts to crash and you have your stock firm sell off your stocks.llol.-marekz

You know I never knew about the site: search option in google, thanks you helped me out and possibly saved me from asking stupid questions, well maybe not I can be a little slow at times:D

I don't know why that isn't a sticky, or at least it wasn't the last time I looked. Come to think of it, the last time I looked in the 'newbies good info here' sticky 5 or 6 of the first 13 links were no longer valid so it doesn't appear to be kept very current.

I hesitate in posting this, but I am going to anyway.

Why are there so many rude responses for many questions that people feel to be inane or repetitive?

Yes, there is the ability to search the forum and Google questions. However, in the time it takes to post a rude response, a person could simply answer the question.

This forum should be a welcoming place for people with the common interest of knives. Welcome these new people with a legitimate answer to their question or move on without responding rather than being rude.

Of course, this does not apply to trolling post.

to answer the OP question generally- Stock removal means that the maker takes a piece of steel and grinds away the steel (stock) to make the knife without having forged the steel beforehand.

Daniel, on the one hand I agree with you 100%, on the other I find it puzzling that someone that has found this site does not know what stock removal means.

I guess that everyone learns at different rates. I thought that the term-stock removal- was fairly intuitive, but I was wrong, since it is asked so many times.

Maybe there should be a glossary on here with commonly used terms?

There is a ton of info on blade forums. Unfortunately its disjointed, hard to find, and conflicting. I think I understand the owner's decision to only allow paid users to use the search function but by doing so we get the silly questions. The stickys honestly suck. A lot of them don't work and again the information is confusing with too much conflicting information.

A search function and the glossary mentioned above would be a good start.

And lastly people for God sakes just read the threads! Read all of them if your new your going to learn something. I do!

Most response were accompanied by lol or smilies and were clearly meant to be funny or I thought so anyway.
And asking a question like "What does boiling water means" on a cooking forum is just too close to trolling not to get those kind of responses.

That said I apologize if my response was seen as rude in any way.

Daniel,

Speaking for myself, I thought Marek's response was funny and not directed at the OP and I was trying to be funny. I never would have responded that way had with the intention of demeaning the OP for asking a "newbie" question, since I do the same thing.

Most importantly, I didn't think the OP was even reading the responses at that point because if you look at the link posted on response #3, we all answered that question yesterday for the OP and he evidently didn't read those responses either.

Go through the first 2 pages of shop talk and you will find that this guy has asked almost the same question 5 times now . He never returns to say thank you to any one . I don't think he even reads them .

sorry folks. I'll do better and be more careful next time. The last thing I want to do is come off as a troll or make people angry. I was probably just a little excited about it all and didn't read carefully enough on things I had already asked or use Google well enough.
