You don't have to "waste your time". You can simply move on without responding to the question. If you cited my entire post, you will notice that I said that you could choose to ingnore the question rather than post a rude or sarcastic post.
With all due respect, my post was neither rude, nor sarcastic. Nor for that matter was it directed at the OP. My reference to time wasting was not directed at the OP either, it was in reference to your post stating:
Yes, there is the ability to search the forum and Google questions. However, in the time it takes to post a rude response, a person could simply answer the question.
Your assertion that I should simply answer a simple, repetitive question, rather than tell a person that it might be in their best interest to do some research on their own, in my opinion is an assertion that I should spoon-feed somebody rather than help to teach them. That, in my estimation, is a waste of time.
Noticing that you are a maker, I would wonder how many customers you might gain by taking that small investment of time in answering a question in a cordial manner?
Admittedly, I'm a hobby maker so my livelihood isn't on the line. Even if it were though, I would respond in the same manner. Most likely, even more vociferously. As a maker, I feel that it is my responsibility to give something back to makers who are starting out to pay back the debt that I owe to the makers who got me started. Let me tell you something, the people who have made the biggest difference in my knifemaking weren't molly-coddlers. They gave it to me straight, challenged my attempts to be lazy and let things slide, and treated me as they themselves wanted to be treated; as equals.
If you go and look back over my posts, you will see that I have on hundreds of occasions cordially answered questions, oftentimes spending an hour or more to recheck my facts and try to state things as clearly and completely as possible. It falls under the same category of "paying it forward" I have described above.
Personally, I have purchased several knives from makers primarily because I liked the way that they deal with people and answer their questions.
Personally, I do not pass judgement on people based on a single interaction with them over the Internet, but that's just me...
Indeed...and so, I will leave you to it now.
