What does the Paramilitary use for closed retention? I reckon it does not use a ball detent... and I'm curious what it uses and how well the blade retains in the handle... For those who can compare.. How does it stack up against the Millie's retention?? FWIW, the Millie (My Millie) has the best closed retention of any liner/frame lock I've ever had... love it love it love it.

IIRC it's a cut out in the tang that the lock bar sits in. At least that's how my ATR works. The Superhawk has a ball detent.

Blade retention with the tang cut out isn't as secure as the ball detent. It doesn't snap in place with the same authority. It does it's job but not to the same degree.

Just like Joshua said.
I don't know about the security though, you can't really make a blanket statement saying the ball detent is better ;).
On my Paramillie, the detent does it's purpose, and requires a full arm and wrist "snap" to get the blade to overcome the detent and open, but when it does, it opens loudly. All while still opening smooth as butter (flick it open or whatever) and locking up like a vault. I'd dig a Paramilitary with a "frame-compression lock" like on the Ti Salsas and ATR's.

Hey Archman,

The compression lock on the Paramilitary sits in a square kind of cut out on the blade when it is closed.

There is a "compression lock" review on YouTube where it shows the cutout of the blade that the compression lock sits in. ;)

That's just my experience with the Superhawk, it closes nice and snappy.
I also remember hearing that as one of the more common complaints people had about the Para. I don't know that the tang cut out retention on the Para isn't as good as a ball tetent, as far a I can remeber that's what people were saying.
Both get the job done, and the Para is tip down so it's not a huge deal anyway. Most of the time it's only an issue if you carry tip up with the blade facing the inside of your pocked. Which is just a good way to stab yourself in the hand.

GREAT vid!... answers ALL OF MY questions! I don;t think this one is for me though... I like a GRRRREAT retention. Maybe if/when I can afford it, I'll see if STR will cut down the blade/handle of a Millie for me! HOW COOL would that be!!!?
