What does your screen name mean?

TKC=TheKnifeCollector. Ages ago, I was signing up for something on the Ernest Emerson, and I didn't want to use my usual non-knife screen name, and out of the blue came up TheKnifeCollector. It is really quite boring.

Friends and family know me as equal parts comic, rebel, eccentric, fighter, idealist, Zen/Taoist geek I think?

In debate classes, I always found it relatively easy to convincingly argue my opponents position... something that was required by the class (argue the position you believe in today... and then you must swap positions with your opponent and make a convincing argument from his position). My classmates called me see-saw.

Hence... Tim-csaw (see-saw).

I might add that having to do this (changing sides thing), really makes one think about your opponent's position to a greater depth. It can be very enlightening.

(Well Tim, that's a pretty stupid screen name.)
(No, it makes perfect sense!)
(No it doesn't)
(Yes it does)
(No, it's stupid)
(Is not)
(Is)
(Isn't)

Etc. etc.

Almost a decade ago there was a group of us who hung out in Chat.
Spark, DDR, Kit, Pat, PhilL, Gene, Morice and many others. We always had a great time kidding with each other and helping folks out in times of need. DDR came up with the term Bastids (as an enigma, not as a term of "intimidation" as has been espoused by some of the more clueless that hang around here).

Bastid will always to me represent the close friendships that were established in those early years of BFC.

I have been studying MJER Iai Heiho under Masayuki Shimabukuro since 1999.

Although I am currently a second degree black belt(nidan), one is ALWAYS a student first, and a teacher second..until death....Kohai is the Japanese word for student.

Best Regards,

Family name originating in Lochend, Invernesshire along Loch Ness, of the Highland Branch of Clan Fraser under the Lord Lovat.

Famous for charging the enemy with claymores in hand while stark naked!

Yes, I did see 'Nessy'.

A friend at work started calling me Shawn fu one day out the blue, and it stuck-and has absolutely nothing to do with me studying a Chinese martial art:D

Mine doesn't really mean anything, other than being a monument to youthful overindulgence and carelessness.

In the mid-1970's I was working on some Arpanet projects as well as the then current generation of mini's and pre-VAX stuff. I used to like playing an old BASIC text game called Star Trek. I was a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes and identified with his fictional but misanthropic brother Mycroft Holmes. Due to my youthful indiscretion and legendary overindulgence, I repeatedly misplet the name of Holmes the Elder as Mycroftt, and mycroftt. I was known variously as Captain F***up or Mycroftt So I kept using it and mispleting it for 35 or more years. Now I'm mycroftt wherever I go on the internet.

Rupestris - Latin for "lives among the rocks (or cliffs)".

I chose the name some eight or so years ago. I enjoy fishing but the rivers here are loaded with rocks that will steal every bit of your tackle without remorse.

One of the most common fish around here is the Rock Bass (Ambloplites rupestris - or "Bass that lives in the rocks"). Seems no matter what you are fishing for, one of these pesky little buggers will throw itself on your hook just to end its miserable existence.

Some of my favorite places are Northern NY and West Virginia. Both loaded with rocks and bedrock foundations, I find myself more at peace there than any where else, so, "Lives among the rocks" just describes me.

irony, defined.

Mine is of course just my initials. This was the first forum I joined way back when. So I didn't really sit and try to think of a good name. On most other forums I go by "Doubletap".
