What Does Your Watch Say About You?

I stopped wearing a watch when I started carrying a cell phone.

This is my joke- "what do you call a person that doesn't wear a watch? you call them LATE!" I won't say that this applies to everybody but the younger generation such as my daughter all have cellphones permanently attached to them but they are always late.

Those videos were very funny, weren't they intended to be that way and not be truthful? I think a watch does tell something about a person, the same as their car, their clothes, their hair, etc., says about them. I've known people that had fancy cars but dumpy houses. I've known people that drove plain beat-up cars but had expensive houses and bought expensive art to put in their houses. Partly it is a matter of image and partly it is a matter of priorities. One person wants to save money by driving a plain beatup car so they can buy expensive art. Me, if I was able to save money, I would buy a better car!

But about watches- some people don't wear watches, some people wear cheap watches from walmart, target or department stores, some people wear sports watches, some people wear mechanical Seikos and such, and some people wear expensive Rolexes. Rolex makes very good watches but people buy them for status and not because they are good watches so that sort of ruins it for the people that want to wear them because they are good watches. Similarly I see that most people that buy a BMW could not tell you what makes it a good car or could not even tell you what is different about it, they buy it because they want to be seen driving a BMW.

I'm one of the guys that wears Omega dive watches, Seiko dive watches, plus a few others. I don't wear a Rolex because I'm not a "Rolex" person, just like I don't drive a BMW because I'm not a "BMW" person.

People will find all kinds of ways to spend irrational sums on things they like. Look at all the cash people will spend on sharp pieces of metal around here. I've spent far more than most on cars, watches, DVDs, CDs, and yes, knives. And don't get me started on how much I've spent on booze; it's incalculable.
My vice is headphones.

and some what knives, but I mostly buy cheep-o-rama knives from the coast that look cool...and break.

Right now my watch is A fossile brushed steal square body and a large plain leather band.

My wife paid $1000 for my Omega Seamaster 15 years ago. I spent about $200 on having it fully cleaned and serviced about 3 years ago. I have never needed another watch and I fully expect this watch to last me my lifetime. So, I consider this watch a bargain. I also think that it's understated so people don't really notice it. Occasionally I get a comment from watch collectors but only once a year or so...
