What draws you to RAT knives?

RAT Cutlery has a lot in common with Spyderco. I'm a big fan of Spyderco. Not only because I am a very "form follows function" type of person, but also because they are the real deal. They make quality stuff, have a great group of people behind it, and they interact with the end line users on multiple levels. The actually value what the customer has to say and learn from everyone. They have tons of original ideas and are constantly improving things. They give credit where it is due and have a no BS warranty.

I see the same stuff in RAT Cutlery. No bullshit, USA made, good guys (and girls), knives that function flawlessly and are not all prettied up for no reason. They listen to their customers among other things.

The beauty is in the function. You use the knife and then go "holy crap, this rocks!" They don't go overboard on stuff. The RC-4 and Izula that I have are perfect. They however just scream to be used. I use 'em.

Sal Glesser once said: "We've built a few collector pieces but most Spydercos are hungry and like to eat. As mentioned, open, close, cut, clean, oil, cut, cut, cut... To a Spyderco, that is living. All of the effort that we put into designing and building the knife is found in using the knife; The horsepower in the steel, the edge, the ergos, sophisticated mechanisms, carefully chosen materials or custom made materials, history of and refinements to the design, etc. Letting it die in the box is to lose 75% of what we put into it."

I love that, and I don't want to let any RAT knife I own "die in the box". No way.

Keep up the kick ass stuff RAT Cutlery! Many thanks for good knives and service!

Through recommendations from other forums where I have membership, my research of knives over the last three weeks, the RAT website/forum, and finally the purchase of the Izula and RC-5 that I have owned now for a little over a week ....Great Product made in the Good Ole USA !

since the day I bought my RC4 secondhand I've used the knife all over the world. Very robust! Now an RC5 and HEST are comming this way! What caught my attention regarding the RC knifes are the simplicity and durability. My EDC is a spydie delica G10.

the quality, the looks, the feel, company ethics, the people, this forum.
and the no nonsense no b/s usability of the knives themselves.
its like THE package deal, and i hope they dont change anything their doing.
maybe other companies should take notice.!!!!

Yup!

I'll admit, the reason I was drawn to knives was because I saw the one in Modern Warfare 2 and was intrigued, and started doing some research into knives. I'm also a fan of Metal Gear Solid, and knives play a large role in that game as well. Sooo I started reading bladeforums.com and was drawn to the simple, rugged clean designs of the RAT. Once I found out their warranty is kickass, it was only a matter of when I would have one, haha.

Simply the No BS customer service, and the outstanding design proformance of the products.

Good implementation of a good design.

...and the Rat Girls don't hurt. :D

The initial attraction was the simplicity. They're purpose-built tools that skimp on the flash and pay careful attention to the function.

You take a knife like that, put it into a price bracket that 90% of us can afford, and cover it with a great warranty...

Sounds like a winning combination to me.

have used knives most of my life and collected for yrs. started with old folders then found myself really more drawn to handmade fixed blades(no art knives -they just dont appeal here, and even tho many are handmade most have been users over the yrs). had gotten away from buying "production" knives for several yrs now. then a pal gifted me with an izula and i was hooked. just love that little knife and it has been an edc since the day i received it. since then bought a hest and have had some chances to use it and like it just as well. now fixing to jump into the rat pack with a 5 or 6(still cant decide ...) after getting that izula(hadnt even heard of rat cutlery before that) checked out the website then found the forum here and have just had a great time. learned lots and appreciate and respect the way the folks at rat cutlery handle themselves. they respect their customers and seem to genuinely appreciate feedback and participate with the good folks here. they also are not afraid to sing the praises of other knife companies. and we all know there are lots of awesome american made knives. somehow this company just stands above most. thanks!

The sheer minimalist utility of the Izula. No B.S. company philosophy and warranty, made in USA. That and the way they smell when new.

Dude...fresh micarta is right up there with bacon and coffee for my favorite smell to wake up to.

Simple, durable, and clean designs. And the sheaths really put it over the top. love 'em.

Great products that are priced right. RAT products are more than the sum of their parts. Made here, made right. No flash, no bullshit. Hanging out on this forum sold it for me. Jeff and Mike care more about their customers than their bottom line, and as a whole run a no bullshit operation. RAT is a company that has my support for as long as they're in business or as long as I'm breathing.

All that said, the folder will be my last RAT. That will give me an RC6, izula, and folder, provided I can resist the Imacasa collaboration. Those are all the tools I really need, from there I'll focus on re-honing those skills that Jeff preaches about.

the price to performance ratio, I wanted a no nonsense knife, something that works in the real world and not just for show

i personally like:
the blade design
the amazing warranty
the fact that it is made in the US
that my izula is legal to carry where im at.
and that you can directly talk with the owners on forums such as these.
they also have a great company philosophy.

I basicly started like this: "Man, I got all these great folders but no rugged outdoors fixed blades, I need to fix this!" And after browsing a bit I decided to go with RAT. Why? Highly praised by customers, no questions asked warranty, and I didn't need to ask any questions. :D

Needed a knife, this was the first quality company i stumbled upon; and the sucker has yet to die on me. Soooo im stuck with this rat. lol
