I know most seem to like 1095 carbon....what are some cheaper knives that use this blade....sorry to sound like a cheapo....but I don't get much work in the winter time

To clarify are you specifically looking for inexpensive knives in 1095 or inexpensive knives with any good quality carbon steel? If it's the latter have a look at Opinel and Svord.

yes I have an opinel.......I would be looking for something a little nicer looking to carry everyday.....1095 would be great..but any good carbon steel I guess....im pretty new to the knife game...always had a bunch...but a bunch of junk

don't really care for the looks of the svord

The Svord peasant is a workhorse but it isn't really attractive :) I personally love the look of the Opinel but aesthetics are a matter of taste. I can't really help much more but for anyone else who might chime in it would help to know your budget :)

not really a budget ..just wanna learn some cheaper options for carbon steel.......I know the cheaper options with ss..rough riders...and tons more..but if I don't have money and wanna buy a knife in ss its a rough rider

Bear and Sons 4th generation. Several Case models (deralin). Those are the economically priced ones that come to my mind.

I would recommend that you keep an eye out for old carbon steel US made Schrade's (there are a couple in the sales forum if I recall right). They're usually not expensive (at least the most common models/patterns) and they're good knives.
Boker also sells very nice carbon knives at decent prices.

Queen Work horse knives are in 1095.
Some of the Queen City knives are also low cost. (Some of the Queen City are high end, so watch the price.)

Case yellow Delrin CV are relatively inexpensive. Depends on the patterns, but I buy those new in the $20 to $30 range. To me that's economical.

If your budget is really low I would suggest trying an older Imperial of Hammer brand shell handled barlow, more vintage yes, but you can find one for less than 10 bucks online and it has great 1095 in it for cheap! These are about 3 inches closed length. May be smaller than you want though.

You can easily find vintage Camillus/CAMCO, Ulster/Craftsman, and Schrade in good condition with much life left in them for less than a twenty dollar bill.

One of the new Colt carbon steel knives. They have g-10 scales so they aren't pretty or ugly but mines sharpened up real well and are well made.

Every so often you can pick one up in the local hardware stores. I saw a Schrade display in a Monnick HW store last year. The purveyor let me look inside and I got an uncle Henry staglon stock 834 UH. It was in stainless but a US knife for 20 bucks was a no brainer.

You can find inexpensive , made in Germany, Boker traditional patterns in their excellent C75 carbon steel.

+1. Can find the CV blades in brown delrin as well if you look hard enough. I see them for sale used every so often in the antique malls.
