What EDC should I buy.

I keep ending up right back here. I keep thinking i have found the knife for me, and then I'm turned off by something about it. What Do you recommend? My tasks are Cutting tape to break down boxes, cutting through bags, occasional other semi hard use. Another thing I live in Florida, so i am not sure whether or not the ridiculous humidity here is going to affect my knife. I need something that will survive the heat and in the sense the handles won't melt. (by the way I have a phobia of this, I went in my grandfathers truck and saw his every day use knife melted to the little compartment near the dash) I need something that has a good or at least decent steel, preferably s30v but I will gladly settle for something of less quality as long as it serves my needs. I also really prefer Frame locks, that or axis or other patented systems, just preferably not liner. I would also prefer a price tag lower than $160. If the price is higher, but is still very good, please list it anyways, i am willing to save. Btw, I considered the Griptilian, but the tasks I do are usually done in hot weather, so I just don't want melted FRN in my hands.

EDIT:What I really meant about the humidity was I didn't want the blade or handles to just start rusting.

Really? I didn't know because I am slightly new at this. I actually don't own a high quality knife.

I used a pacific salt by spyderco as my dive/utility knife while I was visiting florida and it held up very well. My dad uses a Syderco salt 1 on his boat and while he is fishing...it gets alot of blood on it and it is fine as well. I have a coated Griptilian that i really really like as well and i have beaten the hell out of that knife and its still great. getting a good coating on the knife will help prevent rust and allow you to look at cheaper steels like Aus 8 that wont be effected by the salty air...good luck.

Im actually considering the salt now. It looks like something I would take on boats and pretty much everywhere

For an EDC, you'll doubtlessly receive plenty of good suggestions here.

A good stainless steel (VG-10, 154CM) properly taken care of shouldn't have any issues with rusting. Stay away from D2, however - it's not a true stainless (although it's a great blade steel.)

As stated above by another member, FRN will not melt in the heat. It's an incredibly durable (and often underrated) material.

IMO if you look at all the knives out there suitable for EDC for less than $160.00, your head will be spinning. There are a LOT of them.

I'd stick with something from a top manufacturer in a really good steel. For instance, a Benchmade (in 154CM) or Spyderco (in VG-10, which I personally like a little more than H1 - in my experience VG-10 takes a keener edge and holds it longer. But H1 is definitely good stuff, especially around water).

Another thought - if you have some time to wait, you can have a custom Buck 110 made for you at the Buck Custom Shoppe to your specifications as to blade steel and handle/bolster material. Takes about a month of so.

If you're looking for a frame lock, one of my favorites for about $100.00 is the A.G. Russell Italian Tactical. I've had one for about 4 years and it's proven to be a really exceptional knife. Titanium handles and an ATS-34 blade. (http://www.agrussell.com/ag-russell-tactical-ats-34-blade-brown-anodized-handle/p/RUShhhFX180B/) Only thing is that the blade is not quite as stout as those on knives like the Benchmade Griptilian or the Spyderco Endura. The A.G. Russell is more of a slicer.

Anyway, happy shopping. :)

I highly recommend the Salt as an EDC if you're going to be on and around boats. While any good true stainless shouldn't give you a corrosion problem if properly taken care of, H1 is even more corrosion resistant.
And it does take and hold a pretty darn good edge.

Few options to think about:
Spyderco Salt is good one as mentioned above.
BM Grips are great too as mentioned above
Emerson CQC7's are one of my favorites.. and I really never thought I would like one till I got one.. now near top of my list. It does have a liner lock but it is super strong. Cheap knives with them really gave liners an undo bad name.
Spyderco Caly3 or Sage II would be great choice also.

Clean them and keep them oiled and shouldn't have to worry about rust on any of them.

Two knives come to mind that are well built and CHEAP, the RAT1 folder and the Kershaw NRG II. Two very nice edc type knives that are extremely well made. For a bit more money look at the BM 710 on evil bay for a C note or less. I just picked one up without a box but new for well cheap. Also the new 09 Emersons are excellent. Satin finished blades, thicker liner locks and as high a quality of build as I have ever seen on Emerson's to date. Well good luck, and keepem sharp

I EDC my Spyderco Military s30v all the time. No melting and the s30v has been great in the humidity. The only time I got it to rust (just a small amount and I was able to scrub it off) was when I went to the beach and it got saltwater on it. I didnt have time to deal with it and my Military rode around in my pocket all day and sat the next day with the saltwater on it.

I got an Atlantic Salt 2 weeks ago and I'm loving it. So far its gone with me in the hot tub, pool, and lake 10-15 times and its been great to have.

I have not been able to take it out to the beach yet.

Spyderco Atlantic Salt plain edge:
H1 steel, very corrosion resistant. Wharncliffe / Sheephoof blade design makes is excellent for cutting boxes and such. It cuts deep and accurate. Backlock

Spyderco Centofante 4 has also Wharncliffe blade. Centofante is not salt series and does not therefore has H1 steel, but its made still good VG-10 steel. Backlock

Dude FRN isnt going to melt in your hands, pretty much all my EDC knives have FRN handles and they have never even thought about melting (I live in the desert and its usually around 115* in the summer) Get a grip, its a great EDC choice, if you want S30V get a Ritter Grip.

I second this. You have to own at least one waved Emerson.

I have a 551 Griptilian with the olive drab handle and I love it. Very sharp and tough knife. I've used it a lot and it will still take hair off my arm. The coating will prevent rust from forming anywhere but the edge, and there's no way the handle will melt from Florida heat. On top of that, it looks great. :D Just my $.02.
