Hey y'all,
I'm after some advice on an every day carry. I've looked at a few spyderco folders but is like to stay true to kabar. I have a bk11/14 but I am looking for a decent folder.......any advice and suggestions are appreciated

what about the Phat Bob? I don't have one but have heard many good things about it.

What size knife are you looking for?
What is your price range?
What will it be put through? (i.e. gentleman's folder, pure work knife, or somewhere in between)

Hey Critikill price is not really coming into it obviously in looking to save some $$.....I'm looking for a inbetween a gentlemen's and a work knife.

I'd say a Mule or Dozier folder? I think the Mules can be had for around $50-$80 here and the Doziers are around $40 since they're illegal to import from overseas.

I have a ZT 0350 which is my EDC folder for when I'm home and on the weekends. It is very "Beckerish" in build, being a very solid tank of a knife (despite being one of ZT's smallest.) I can't carry it during the week while at work however, as I'm in a professional environment and walking around with a brick of a knife weighing down one side of my dress pants is very annoying. During work hours I usually carry a CRKT Ripple in Aluminum. It is very light-weight but needle sharp and useful for the tasks I use it for at work (I'm an IT Server Admin/Network Admin, so opening packages mostly) in combination with my Leatherman Wave.

Folders aside, I've been EDC'ing my BK14 lately and have increasingly felt like a folder was superfluous.

My CKRT M16-01KZ (3" blade) resides IWB every day, including when I am in my suit and tie work outfit. No one ever knows I have it (it even survived detection of a pat-down once), is super lightweight so that I almost forget its there, sharp, and cheap enough $30-$35 that if it does get lost, its not the end of the world, plus I like the lawks system they have for locking the blade open. It also doen't scare the sheeple when it comes out. It opens one-handed wickedly smooth, and feels very solid once open.

It's so comfortable, that on weekends when I strap on one of my BKs, I still have the CKRT tucked inside my waist band.

Funny thing is, I'm deployed right now, so I can carry pretty much anything I want, but this is still the knife that is always there, quickest and easiest to "deploy" - I guess that is due to my civilian habits. It even rides well inside the waist of my PT shorts.

I rarely carry a folder anymore, I have several fixed blades that I EDC now, but if I carry a folder it's a Rat-1 or a Case Soddy. I've about decided my 14 is as easy to carry as a large folder and it's a lot stronger.

I'm excited about getting my Victorinox Alox Bantam as my new EDC. Should be coming in this coming week!

That was a hilarious review, typical of YouTube; the guy didn't even show the blade until almost 3 minutes into a 3.5 minute video! Great views of his door, though! :D
Seriously, though, nice looking SWAK that is very thin.

the dozier folders are low cost, not particularly pretty, but a fantastic value for the price and very light in pocket.
Phat Bob is a good knife, but not particularly thin or light.

Oh, which BECKER? BK-11.

Yeah. The review itself isn't too great but I'm still excited about the knife. Wanted a good lenght blade but something thin and the bottle opener will get heavily used :)

I didnt know KaBar made traditional folders until a search led me to this.

I really like the looks of it

For me EDC means two distinct environments - at work and not at work.

When not at work my EDC is a simple, cheap yet very effective Buck 482 lockback folder. I have, literally, over two dozen lockback folders in my collection from a wide range of manufacturers, but when being considered for EDC most have fallen by the wayside in favor of this knife. The 482 is very inexpensive (you can find them as cheap as $18 US when Buck puts them on their Web Specials website) so I've bought a few spares to keep around in case I break or lose the one I carry. They can even be had with screaming orange scales so you can find it when you drop it in the deep dark forest. Highly recommended. The 482 isn't high-speed or sexy or made out of forged unobtanium. It's just a good, honest, sturdy knife that you can get for a good price.

I may switch my preference to the Buck Vantage Select. A great knife with a liner lock. A bit more expensive than the 482 but somewhat sturdier because of the stainless steel liners that offer better blade support.

I work for a very, very, VERY anti-gun/knife large city government. If I was caught carrying my Buck 482 at work I'd probably be fired on the spot. However, I CAN get away with a nice, semi-politically correct Case medium stockman. That has become my at-work EDC and it is a very capable knife.

I don't own a folder at all but the more I look at this and the price in which one can be had it looks like a really good option.

I know what you mean. I really like the looks of that Phat Bob. It looks like it can take a good beating, plus it comes with micarta scales!
