What else do we use folders for?

I have used mine often for assorted cutting when working on cars and motorcycles - cutting hoses etc. I have used folders for cutting rubber when I was making rubber washers for vibration damping.

I have used my folder for cutting knotted-up trimmer string from the head of my weed wacker.

I have used my folder for digging small rocks out of crevices on my car when I was detailing.

I have used my folder for eating beans and potato salad when a fork/spoon was not available.

best regards -

paper weight
remove hang nails
money clip
reach boxes on the top shelf
peel backing off stickers and double sided tape
accurately place small stickers or pieces of tape (put it on the very tip of the blade place over location and apply)
handle of knife to crease folds in paper
scribe accurate marks on wood (think cabinet maker's knife/scribe)
deburring plastic
removing excess cured glue and epoxy
stir coffee
de hair the rotating brush on the vacuum cleaner
put a small piece of duct tape sticky side out on tip of blade to retrieve small parts

Everything all of you guys have mentioned, except for the dog crap scraping (ew, way to ruin a perfectly good knife... Though I've used knives to put a point on a stick for that purpose).. Oh, and opening the caps on long-necks which don't twist off... :)

hahaha, yeah, I was thinking the same thing, too! I think it's even funnier now, since you added the pointed stick part!

stir coffee, may be my favorite response yet, next to dog feces and bottle openers :)

I use mine for the general items already mentioned like cutting cardboard, plastic, and zip ties. I actually used mine today to cut my fingernails. I didn't have any fingernail clippers so i used my knife. I work in a sporting goods store so many of us will actually do our work and randomly flip out our blades to practice our blade opening skills. Pretty fun. :D

I did use my knife early today to open up a smoke alarm that had gone bad. I couldn't get it open with me hands so I wiped out the Kershaw and open it up to get at the batteries. I found out that it is a one time use smoke alarm. The batteries were actually soldered to the battery terminals. Kind of weird, never new that they made one time use smoke alarms.

I also work in a sporting good store, so the use I put my edc to almost daily, that has not yet been mentioned, is cutting fishing line. We used to just use a pair of nail clippers attached to the line winder, but since braided line has become so popular, some of the other fine gentlemen with whom I work destroy the clippers weekly trying to cut the braid, so I've just given up and use my knife. Current edc is a Boye cobalt folder (I forgot to ask for the marlin spike, D'OH),very suitable for use as a fishing knife.

Is it completely dull, are you dropping the contents from the blade into your mouth, or is your mouth lined with leather?!

Today - opened all my company mail. Then opened a stubborn clam pack to get out a thumb drive (is there such a thing as ballistic plastic?) to copy job site pics for my client. Went to the job site.

First thing there, sharpen my pencils to mark trims. Trimmed heels on crown moldings to get perfect fit. Recovered old trim for reinstall over cabinets, and cut off excess glue in long runs. Removed nails with pliers, and cut off the remaining splinters (white oak trim) from the old nail penetrations.

Cut open a new heavy plastic clam pack of brads. Sharpened pencil, shaved trims as needed until finished. Sliced off old caulking and paint on cabinets and joint areas as needed to prepare for installation of new and old trims. Sliced old caulking off re-used trim and reinstalled same. Cut open tube of caulk and sealed joints in the trim.

Cut new length of rope to secure my air hoses.

At the end of the day, I used it to cut my favorite "V" notch in my cigar (hey, it's Friday!) with it. It will get lick or two on the rod, and be at it again on Monday.

I used it all day, and even at the end of it on my stogie. How anyone could get along without a nice folder in their pocket I honestly don't know.

You can use one for a door knocker to get someone's attention pretty good. Any old folder makes a very unique sound when knocking on a door.

Open up the boxes of other edc's that you order duh....
Yeah! I spend a couple of minutes deciding which one to open with! :D

I honestly would have never thought about that, but now I know! I actually might try that real soon..

That's a great point! The the other day, I had a knife come in the mail, and it was so "thoroughly" packaged...if I hadn't had a good knife to un-box it... I shudder to think of the horror... :)
I mean... I may have had to use... <gulp>... scissors...

Gasp. Scissors!! Hahaha!

I use all of my knives as solid matter separation tools.
I use my folders as my go to weapon at gun fights.
I see what you two did there .
