So, im itching to get one of the sk-5 Cold steel recon scouts. I've been researching them for a long time now, and I just cant set my mind on wether its worth getting.
The only thing thats holding my back it the fact thats its made in china, QC could be on the bad side.

So, do you guys know of any production knives close to the shape and size of the recon scout for the same price, and made in usa or canade, and taiwan at the worst?

i have a recon scout carbon 5 and i think its a great knife for the money.i have been using it for years and i wouldnt hesitate to get another.i wouldnt mind geting my hands on a scrapyard yardguard but i cant find one thats not being price gouged. there is someone with a pic of a recon scout broke in half but i cant see how they could have done that i have used mine for everything short of chopping thru a brick wall,it really is a great knife.so theres the recon scout, the yardguard and the fallkniven a1 which are all somewhat similar knifes that i would own.

what do you mean good for the price? any problems with edge retention and handle ergo's and fittings?

Im just unsure about it know what I mean?

I wouldn't hesitate to get the one from China. There is starting to be some pretty good stuff coming from there. Is it Sk-5 or one of the other steels?

SK-5, I've had that steel in various garden tools befor and never had problems with it, soo

I have not read one bad report on the SK-5 I plan to pick up the SK-5 Trail master very soon. The Buck, Rough Rider, Outdoor edge and China CS knives are pretty good stuff. It had to happen, they had to pick up their QC or get out of the knife trade. I was sick when Buck started a China line but I have a few and you can't tell the difference.

I mean that it was as good as my made in USA trailmaster..BAD SIDE..made in china..GOOD SIDE..for $80 bucks..you wont hesitate to beat the piss outta it. It holds a great edge..and feels just as solid as any CS handle..lots of people complain about CS handles..I never had an issue..I had an SRK that I carried for 10 years..the only knife I owned ( I know, freakin unbelievable right?) and it took whatever I threw at it. I am thinking about getting a Scout as well...infact..I had forgotten to buy one of those..I think I will. Gene

well mabye were on the same boat then, I have a Master hunter in Cv that is amazing, but if the two have compare handle and qc (trailmaster and Recon), why not?

ive been wondering to how the new Recon Scout is compaired to the old Carbon V

According to the website it is 5/16" thick.....Ummmm.....Thats really thick.

The Becker is a nice knife, but is very neutral weighted, not a good chopper. But a good all round camp knife, and same steel.

Well the way I see it, I have a perfectly good BK7 here, I may as well just use that and get the new light.

Can't agree 100%, I personally have not had problems except for the handle digging me abit. but it is a great camp knife.

Took 5 mins?

Good job! Now, if only you had a RS or TM to compare it to.... ;)
But I'm glad it worked well for you, if you like it, then that's all that matters!
