What Ever Happened to KOA?

I dug this one out for the Sunday photo show and afterwards I started thinking (always dangerous) and I checked the Custom Shoppe and, lo and behold, no KOA.

Anybody know if there was a problem with supply or it just fell out of favor?

I'd like to see it offered again.......maybe Mr. Hubbard knows if it might be available in the future?

I'd probably buy a 110 but I'd really like to get a 112 in KOA.

Too bad the BG-42 will never be available again.

Koa is one of the more expensive lumber species, and supply is limited. For lumber with at least some figure, the price is about $40-$50 per board foot. For highly figured lumber, the price increases to $100-$150 per board foot.

For KOA (Kampgrounds of America) they seem to be doing well.

Kampgrounds........

So......what you're saying is we are not likely to ever see KOA again offered in the Custom Shoppe?

I am both sad and happy about that.

Sad that we won't see any more KOA......

And happy that my knife will certainly make a good increase in value because no more like it will ever come out of the Custom Shop.

:D

This I posted before they say it’s

Yes, I like yours and 2Tony's because they actually look like KOA.
Then you dont know what koa looks like. As you were told earlier it is not all highly figured. Just because you relate the curly figure to koa doesnt mean it is not koa without the same figure.

The highly figured wood is the only reason people like KOA.

Plain jane KOA (which is cheap KOA) just looks like any other plain wood.

I wouldn't even consider it.

It's a good thing 90 percent of the people here have you on ignore. I should of stayed with that setting. Going back to ignore in 3 2 1 bliss.

LOL, Mak. How many times have you said that now?

I know you're just kidding me.

I know almost everyone here reads everything I say.......and, like you, they respond.

We're all here to learn. Therefore we read.

I think if we all promote a more friendly atmosphere the forum will get even better.

We will be offering more real woods in the CKS shop. I believe that Koa is one of them but am not sure.. I also think we are getting rid of all laminates. I'll check.

Thanks much.

Holy cow.......getting rid of all laminates is big news.

And to see KOA again would be great.......even if it's expensive.

I like it better than buffalo or giraffe and they're very expensive.
