I agree, but your statement "because they actually look like KOA." is simply wrong!The highly figured wood is the only reason people like KOA.
Plain jane KOA (which is cheap KOA) just looks like any other plain wood.

Koa is one of the more expensive lumber species, and supply is limited. For highly figured lumber, the price increases to $100-$150 per board foot.

A board foot is a 144 cu in.
or a 1x12 a foot long or a 2x6 a foot long, etc.
A few years ago, there was an embargo on Koa wood, and the price skyrocketed... thats why its no longer available
