What exactly are the sheath options?

Awhile ago Busse Combat changed from Kydex to Leather with reasons described by Andy in a couple of posts. However lately there have been a couple of posts indicating that Busse Combat seems to be doing their own Kydex work and may be offering Kydex sheaths for the blades.

So what exactly is the current sheath status? Is leather still standard? If so on what models? What about Kydex is it an option? If so on what models? Are the sheaths being made in house or are they being contracted out?

By the way, if you are looking for high grade combat sheaths you might want to look at what Eagle Industries is doing for Strider.

Hi Cliff!!!

Here's the deal as I understand it right now.

Leather is standard with the Basic line, kydex is an additional option. The leather might be replaced with a standard cordura sheath with a kydex liner.

Kydex is standard with the Combat line, however, a cordura sheath with a kydex liner might become the standard sheath with an all kydex/concealex sheath as an additional option.

All kydex sheaths are being made in house at this time. Leather sheaths are outsourced, as will be the cordura.

Cliff, what do you know about the sheaths produced by Eagle? I've seen them in picture but not in person. I've a few pieces of Eagle gear and the construction is fantastic, but I was wondering how well the Eagle sheaths fit & hold (upside down?) the knives.

What is happening with the leather sheaths for the combat line? Will they be available for the E knives? Have any been made? Are they better than the ones pictured for the basic line?

My busse(badger attack)came with an Eagle sheath. It has a String with a snap on it that wraps around the knife handle and snaps on the sheath. You can stand on your head and the knife wont fall out!

I've got an Eagle sheath for both my SH and MS.
Some of the best sheaths I've ever had!

Allow me to voice my unsolicited opinion on an old thread; I don't like the Kydex sheaths. I find them to be a bit large, uncomfortable, and way too noisy. Even if you immobilize your knife with a tie down strap, the sheath tends to clunk around too much when you brush up against other hard objects. I like the protective properties of Kydex, but the noise irritates me. I'm sure they're great on the smaller models, but, given a choice, I would prefer a quality leather or kydex lined cordura sheath for my SHII.

Just my humble opinion...

BTW, if I ever do get ahold of a nice Variant (like that #5 that I missed because I didn't respond within the first 4 minutes

) then I'll be sure to get one of those beautiful Kenny Rowe customs. Man, those are some nice sheaths!

My first Busse, a SHII came with an Eagle sheath. Was ok but the liner was noisy. The BM, MS, Badger all came with kydex. What I've had to do with ALL my kydex sheaths and the eagle was is find out where they need to be tightened and then I use a tea kettle of hot water to SLIGHTLY melt the kydex then press or mold the blade to the kydex. I've used this method alot with no harm to the sheath. As to the noise factor, I've carried a kydex sheath on my LBV for 3 years and have never had a problem. To qualify that I will say I'm an infantry PSG and not a REMF.

My .02 worth.

I really like the Eagle sheath that came with the Busse's at one time. I really like there other gear as well. What I'm wondering is can you get an Eagle that will fit a Busse now? Which models can you get the sheaths for without being overly large?

Thanks.

I think the Kydex is fine on the Bigger models. would like to see A kydex lined Cordura though. And if anyone knows where I can have one made let me know. But On the smaller models... I do not like the Kydex at all. The Kydex rig on my badger absolutely refuses to let go of the knife. I mean if you want to carry it clipped to the inside of your waste band and canceal it, when you go to draw it the sheath is comming too. Even if it's worn on a belt you have to fight with it to get it out. And the Kydex rig on my mean street doesn't even fit anymore. the knife just falls out. I have begun to carry my number 3 in the MS's rig just becuase the mean street won't stay in it. So my experience with the kydex on the smaller models has not been a good one.

Eagle makes Kydex lined Cordura sheaths for Strider, high quality work. Ask in the general forum and you should get some pointers.
